A friend of mine @goldfrog made an AMAZING analysis of the song Deadlock by AZALI and I just had this thought while listening to it while on a field trip.
The high whistling notes I personally HEADCANNON to represent Wemmbu clinging onto himself and who he is despite being forced into going things he would not do on his own. In the beginning, the whistle cuts out and is almost being spoken over? And then it switches to a lower pitch that's almost like "be careful what you're doing." like a WARNING. This pattern repeats later, but THIS time it's a higher tone, and it's almost like losing that fight of a warning.
And I agree with Gold on this, Deadlock is almost a ferocious desperation in a battle. The beats in the background almost over power the high notes, but it's JUST enough to almost highlight them?
now how do I bring this fully into UU? WELL NOW GLAD YOU ASKED (if you didn't well. now you did :D)
Wemmbu is far from free in this arc. I really like expanding his head cannons into more dramatic, emotional, and basically a lawdog AU on STEROIDS. Deadlock gives us that desperation to live, to keep EGG living, to do everything he can to keep his best friend alive, even if it means burning his bridges.
but he isn't beaten yet.
He asked Flame why he's fighting, how the both of them could overpower both of their leaders- no DICTATORS and was recalling times with Flame. It was almost like he was trying to get an edge on Flame to do what HE can't, without knowing Flame is also there for his best friend.
Now going back to the song, there's this sections that's almost hard percussion as well as guitar. (there are other instruments but I'm highlighting these for the moment) If I remember AZALI correctly, then there's a part behind all of this that sounds vaguely like Battle under a broken sky? (BUABS) And IF I REMEMBER THIS RIGHT BUABS WAS USED A LOT DURING WHAT. THE POWER ARC?? AROUND THERE???
If it was, then calling back to the arc where he was establishing himself, getting his skill and reputation, it's absolutely fucking BRILLIANT. Right now he is being used for that power, and it's almost like it's BECAUSE of HIMSELF that he's in this position. Arachn1d EASILY could exploit this honestly, headcannon or not, but yeah!!?
