His Heart Made of Glass, Yet No One Can See Through
JumperWho is probably one of the most underrated characters in UU.
Just think about what has happened to her. First, she was in BAT. She was the leader of the main force, aka the spies. Without her, BAT was essentially just Leo, Derap and Nufuli.
She was booted from BAT after she killed her spy as apart of Parrot's plan. Despite that, she still helped. She still came in and saved both Leo and Parrot and gave them sanctuary in her void base to work against the Director.
After BAT fell from what it was after Leo's madness about Spoke, she was left with nothing in the end. All of her spies died, Nufuli and Leo are dead, and Derap is Notch knows where. She was left with genuinely nothing that we saw at her start.
Now going to the current arc. A parallel of her that I've seen with Spoke is an interesting one to me.
Both of them have had their friends leave them in some way or another. They both are on the opposite sides of dealing with their past and experiences.
Jumper took it as a lesson. She learned what can happen to people who go too far. She has become wary, after BAT, and especially after Purgatory. She saw what can happen to someone who cracks, she saw it in Leo. She saw what happens when someone cares too much, to the point of obsession with the Director (even if she didn't see a lot of it directly) she has seen what people will do for power in the election. She has learned from what happens to her.
Spoke takes his as justification. He feels that he has been wronged, and for that he must return the favor. He simply cannot let go he needs it to be equal, if not in his favor. He went through Jamato, Ashswag, Leo, and Jamato, and Jamato again. His views changed, and not for the better. He holds grudges and memories and past events better than a sponge holds water.
Jumper doesn't necessarily forgive and forget. I find that she is always too stereotyped in being so forgiving and that is why she gets into these situations. She is calculated with who she trusts. That's why Leo trusted her, because he knew that she was careful with her own.
She believes in her friends because she will fight until she physically cannot anymore. She will, and has, gone to the extremes for the ones she's cared about. Lemme rehash it again. She sent her own into battle, and even killed one. She put her life on the line MULTIPLE times. And she has lost everything because of someone else.
I think that she still stays by someone because she believes that others can see the cost of a life. That they sit with that in the back of their head, and can grow from that moment. She even told Spoke in the newest video that she thought he could come back. That he could redeem himself.
She believes in changing, and growth. She gives a strike one, two, and three, before you're out of the ball game. She believed that Spoke would change because she trusted him, and believed that he could.
She was arguably the last person close to him (literally and metaphorically) that couldve gotten though to him.
Now Spoke. ohhhh dear where do I begin.
Spoke is in a very tricky position in relation to the Null.
He isn't being fully himself with them. He's putting up this mask, and channelling the darker side of him into what he does. He has to almost constantly justify the fact that he's killing hundreds. He left Minute alive, masking it by saying it would be more cruel.
He keeps skirting past the line that if he crosses, Null will leave him as fast at they did Jamato. Spoke HAS to portray himself as someone with no weaknesses, and that is why he knocked Mapicc into the Underworld. While it could've been rooted in wanting to keep him safe, to me it looked more like he was saving Mapicc from himself.
He has to be strong for Null, and having Mapicc in the picture was too risky. Spoke would try to choose both Null and Mapicc, and he can only get one of them.
Jumper is that same. He didn't worry about Jumper because he knows she is capable. She also betrayed him, taking his army in Purgatory to save them. He did however basically get shellshocked when she showed up at their base in the Overworld.
Jumper was the one thing he mis and/or over calculated. He thought that they wouldn't cross paths again, he thought he wouldn't care, he thought that she wouldn't.
But they did. They both did. He just didn't realize it when he made those decisions that led him to this point.
Now another thing I wanna touch on before I go, he isnt NOT aware of what he's doing. When he killed Archduchess, it was because he couldn't understand that someone he saved is betraying. He needs that give and take to a point where he will eliminate it when it doesn't happen.
I think that Jumper sees that he is aware, that he isn't just blind by power. Taking away Null won't instantly solve the issue, but it will aid VERY much. She isn't trying to fix Spoke, or making him be someone that he isnt.
She just really wants the person she trusted and called a friend to come back before he crashes down a slope he will not survive.
