because the idea of a non!targcest deal between omega!aerion and his younger twin alpha!sister who's broader and taller than him where she vets potential alpha boyfriends for him is peak for me. she is also aroace, or like... very dark-grey-aroace.

like bbgirl is looking out for her big brother, even though she physically has to tilt her head down to talk to him if they're standing together. maybe her name is alaena?

anyway just about every alpha guy she meets with aerion is either threatened by her presence, pivoting to hit on her, or is that insecure type where they're like "ooh the fridge guarding the snacks" and aerion's like "my sister has never been chill a day in her life, so..."

up until they run into alpha!dunk! pretty much literally! and dunk is careful about catching aerion and putting him back on his feet, and dunk is just so nice about it and apologetic and aerion is embarrassed and flustered, but alaena is all !!!!! amazing, yes, keep it coming.

i like to imagine that while the twins pretty much have the same face, aerion's coloring favors their dad, alaena's coloring favors their mama.

anyway, maybe they're in college/university, maybe they're apartment neighbors, either way, there's some external elements that keep the twins in close range with dunk. every chance she gets, alaena is hyping her brother up to dunk. can't go two exchanges in a conversation without her going "so my brother-" or "aerion says-" or something of the sort.

maybe she's a little neurodivergent. i like that for her.

let's say a/b/o society at this point says that older siblings have to look out for younger ones, boys have to protect girls, but above all else, alphas need to look out for omegas. which kinda puts the twins' deal into some vague confusion because on the one hand, aerion probably doesn't have to look out for someone who's younger than him by less than 100 seconds. on the other hand, he is male and she is female. but then again, she is an alpha and he is an omega. if either one of them had been betas it would have been better, or if they were both the same subgender, but no. it was probably pretty apparent how they'd present leading up to it, but i imagine that up until the twins were about 3 or so, people really did think aerion was supposed to look out for his sister. but then alaena started getting real protective over her brother in preschool, and people were like "ah. maybe this is a sign of things to come."

pretty sure the sight of a little toddler girl menacing other children with a big leafy tree branch for pushing her brother over was a good starting point. which then makes future discussions really fun because there's the alpha socialization but then the female socialization that comes into play and no one really? knows? how to deal with alaena, particularly if the targaryens are an especially traditional family with traditional norms and traditional subgenders. maybe alaena is the first alpha female in the line in a while, which complicates things greatly for a lot of reasons i won't get into here bc i wanna get back to dunkaerion!

anyway! dunk is very charmed by alaena's version of aerion, and aerion is the equivalent of a cute and fluffy cat that everyone wants to pet but who is also pretty skittish, so even if dunk tries to say hi and whatnot, aerion's freezing or snapping out something in sheer panic and running away. which is also a little charming to dunk, once he realizes that aerion doesn't actually hate him, and this after aerion himself tells dunk that, once he gets a little more used to the big alpha.

maybe aerion is a little neurodivergent too. yeah!

if the twins live together, maybe alaena invites dunk over every once in a while, having given aerion plenty of warning and notice beforehand. just for game nights! or dinner! or watching tv! especially if the targaryens can afford most of the premium streaming services and dunk only really gets satellite tv. there's lots of marathoning going around, and it's the best time of alaena's life when there's a show that both aerion AND dunk have been looking forward to, based off a series of books they both really enjoy!

(did dunkaerion ever talk about liking that series to each other? no. was alaena involved in getting that information and consolidating it into something usable? yes.)

so alaena, in her benevolence and vague impatience over dunkaerion kinda dancing around each other, decides to kinda drop the series and the evidence of trailers and news articles about the series into conversations with both dunk and aerion, and then just kinda... put them together and see what happens when she drops a reference to the upcoming show into conversation. very casually.

yay! dunk and aerion have something to talk about! and boy, do they! alaena goes off to the side to start reading up on the books so she'd at least be able to catch up on what's happening in the show, especially as aerion is the type to point out differences between the screen and the book versions of things.

anyway, alaena preps for premiere day ahead of time, buys snacks and drinks and comfy things well in advance, and then the day comes! dunk comes over! there's a whole spread that aerion wasn't really expecting, but it's nice anyway bc it's all his favorite foods plus some of dunk's! and they start out sitting next to each other on the couch, but aerion does wind up leaning against dunk by the end of the episode! and there's a standing invitation for dunk to come by every week the show's airing, or if it's one of those deals where all the episodes dropped at once, they watch it all together! dunk can stay the night too!

if in this society unmarried omegas still need chaperones, alaena is aerion's chaperone, but once dunk comes into the picture, she maneuvers more into a prop position than anything else, as she doesn't want to stifle things between them.

dunkaerion both go to alaena for heart/romance troubles. she likes being a romance guru!

running out of steam, so yes, eventually dunk and aerion do get engaged and get married! the ceremony was very lovely! the reception was amazing! it would be talked about for years down the line! alaena was behind the scenes running things with an iron fist, making sure everything went as it should, but all the caterers and servers and photographers and everyone got paid and tipped well and got plenty of time and opportunity to eat the food!

as multiples run in aerion's side of the family, he does have twins on his first pregnancy, poor guy. dunk is super attentive, though! gets aerion all his cravings without complaint, looks up all kinds of things to help a pregnant body get comfortable, makes sure the house gets a deep clean with safe chemicals every month, all the massages, the kt tape, all of that.

when aerion has his babies, a little girl and a little boy, he and dunk both agreed on the names ahead of time. the little boy would be arlan. the little girl would be alaena, after her auntie.

might expand on this later, but for now this particular plot bunny has now been freed from the confines of my brain!

edit: i almost forgot to mention EGG! he is the twins' babiest little brother, but he still lives at home with their parents since they're about 7-8 years apart in age. hasn't presented yet, but with the twins the way they are and everything thrown into flux, it could really go any which way. he does visit them when he can though.

probably there was a time where he ran away from home to be with his brother and sister. it's a sleepover! he does need to be returned before supper, but aerion and alaena have a lot of fun carting him to their different uni classes and setting him up with paper and colored pencils/markers/crayons to occupy himself. if the twins are 17-18 in college, egg would be about 10-11? so he knows how to behave himself pretty well.

maybe aerion called egg's school to let them know he'd be out sick. all the classmates love egg, he's just darling, and he might have been super curious about one of the classes, especially if he can just understand basically what's going on, like communications or sociology or psychology, something like that. or art.

i don't think aerion is nearly as nasty to egg in this au as he is in canon, but he is pretty protective/possessive over alaena for some reason, so maybe when egg was a baby, aerion felt a little threatened that alaena was paying more attention to the baby than to him. but then again... a baby brother is very fun to play house and dressup with, and the twins get loads of free snacks and candies when they run errands with the baby stroller in tow. the twins probably wind up carting egg around more than their parents do.

egg got his nickname from one of the twins. the story goes that he was incredibly bald as a small baby. maybe wisps of white-blond hair but not obvious at all. smoove-headed baby, shiny-headed, could call him krillin if it came to that. anyway, story has it that the twins were eating breakfast one morning, and a boiled egg was part of the breakfast. one of them picked up their peeled egg, looked at bald-headed baby aegon, looked at the egg, looked back at baby aegon, held out the egg, and said "baby. egg." and it stuck.

daeron still has visions and stuff but that's being handled with a lot more care and advanced medical tech than canon. they don't plague him and drive him to seek distraction in any way he could, not as much. at first, sure, and it was scary for him and for his family, but they got him help! he's doing good! sometimes his meds need to be adjusted, sometimes there's high-stress situations that trigger his visions and things up again. maybe one of alaena's favorite games to play with big brother daeron as kids was to draw his visions when he told them to her, and then coming up with fun, non-scary stories for them. is that particularly safe? idk. is it good for daeron? idk. but for them, at that age, at that time, it seemed to help. aerion gets involved too, but he's more of the "let's expand this story out into a bigger lore" until there's grand adventures involved. daeron is very very loved, don't worry.

idk much about daella and rhae, but let's say they all get along too!

one of the biggest indicators of someone being a good alpha for aerion was if they were also okay with egg and daeron. alaena first, obviously, but once they passed that gauntlet, they had to be okay with the fact that the twins cared very much for their siblings. if that alpha didn't like kids, he had to go. if something about mental health was dropped into conversation and the alpha reacted with disgust or dismissal or negatively, he had to go. very good filter.

so dunk, when they first meet him, is probably expected to be one of the same kinds of alphas even if he wasn't bothered by alaena at all. but then one day, egg comes by for a visit while aerion and alaena had both stepped out for errands, and dunk happened to be there getting home when egg was knocking on the twins' door. the twins get home to see dunk and egg sitting in the hallway chatting away, and dunk doesn't seem put off by the kid at all. egg gives his stamp of approval pretty quickly.

daeron meets dunk at some point - idk when or how, maybe he also visits the twins. and within minutes of meeting him, daeron tells dunk about a vision he's seeing, he's seen. nothing alarming, but still, very much delivered in a matter-of-fact way. the twins - alaena in particular - watch dunk for his reaction, but dunk is pretty much like "oh? that's neat." took it in stride.

so yeah. dunk's a good guy. the family loves him - the siblings do, anyway, and mama dyanna. there is some concern over the family line and mesalliances but really, it's not like the family line hinges solely on aerion.

everything works out great! yay!

Jokes asidee, wanted to do something aroace themed so have a little comparison between Michiko and Pandora from one of my stories, both aromantic asexual characters but with very different attitudes on like. Everything. I wanted to depict how different aro n ace people can be, especially w their preferences and attitudes towards relationships.
