Speactacular Fae!AU, always down for torturing Maekar a little or a lot. Does Maekar have a heart attack and/or mental breakdown everytime he sees a white haired little boy (courtesy of his grandfather of course) thinking it Aegon? Also would teen or adult Egg leave the forest for a while just to accidentally stumble onto his family and then book it back home and swear to never leave again?
He's mostly just extremly paranoid about losing more of his kids while also drowning himself in work to numb the sorrow. It's very fuckled up and Maekar does not know how to cope. As for the rest of your ask......yeahhhh I am so sorry but no. Egg's staying in the forest where he happily lives to become an old man. Nothing more nothing less. I fear that (again) this AU is just very straightforward with nothing much more going on. Sorry T-T.
Do the children remain human or do they take on some fae qualities over time? Does Dunk take any other of the targ kids? Like Matarys? Or does he confuse wet cat Daeron for a teen and takes him by accident?

The kids remain fully human and live out their natural lifespans within Dunk, mostly dying of old age at like. 80 or 90 or very rarely even 100 years old. Dunk takes great care of them, so his kids usually reach a very high age. Luckily for the royal family Dunk doesn't think that any other child is being mistreated, seeing how Baelor actually cares for his kids (not that Maekar didn't) and makes sure they are fine. Again- he only took Egg because he saw how the poor thing was mistreated by Aerion and neglected by his father and just figures. Daeron unfortunately though is a bit too old regardless T-T Sorry, man.
I fear the AU is just very straight forward...

They do grow up! He lets them leave if he wants to, but it's incredibly rare. Dunk has a small village in his forest where the adult kids live and help raise the younger ones.

About Fae!Dunk AU: Considering what Egg had just suffered at Aerion's hands, and that Maekar didn't seem to care or believe him, he must have been terrified and trying not to fall asleep because he feared Aerion would wake him and do something even worse... And then Egg just sees in the dark the biggest, brightest blue eyes he'd ever seen. Then he feels himself being lifted by enormous arms he couldn't see, and then a booming voice spoke to him like a lullaby:
"Sleep, my sweet, little dragon. You are safe now."
Did Egg believe that the lack of sleep made him imagine things? Perhaps at first, but then he no longer wanted to "wake up" from that wonderful "dream".

Dunk, due to being a nature fea and just overall very in touch with plant and animal life, probably calls all of his kids some kind of nickname. The animal being chosen by virtue of what he thinks fit them best-- in Egg's case being a little dragon hatchling. Honestly Dunk's heart just breaks whenever he sees any adult mistreat or neglect a child. He always loved being able to raise and nurture them, but with fairies being unable to produce biological offspring (they are 'born' via magic as full adults) he just kind of needs to resort to human kids to quell his baby fever.
He never manipulates the minds or senses of any of his charges of course. Dunk isn't cruel like the rest of his kind sometimes is. And yet the children always feel the safest when they are with him, Egg included. He just soothes and cooes down at him while they walk, laying him down on a soft bed of moss in a cabin within his forest.
Egg wakes up to a faceful of curious kids both older and younger than him, alongside his new caretaker, fae!Dunk.
I feel like it's very important that, if Brienne really is Dunk's descendant, he NEVER finds out about his kids. I'm sorry but that man would not abandon the mother of his child. Just wouldn’t. Even if the mother told him to fuck off he just wouldn’t. He's supporting his family and making sure they are alright and most importantly would NOT join the Kingsguard if he knew. Dunk is far too honourable and responsible for that.
