There is a kind of design that earns its engineering. Tensile structures are one of them. The fabric you see pulled across those masts carries real prestress, calculated to the millimeter. The geometry is not arbitrary. Every curve in that membrane is a load distribution made visible. You cannot fake that with aesthetics. What I find fascinating is how little material actually does the work. Steel, PTFE or ETFE fabric, and precise geometry. That is the whole equation. The result is long-span coverage with a fraction of the mass a concrete or steel frame would demand. For public spaces, market halls, transit terminals, and resort facilities, few structural systems give you that proportion of coverage to material use. I do hear the counterarguments regularly. Maintenance is real. The detailing around anchor points and drainage needs experienced hands. Not every contractor in the market knows the system well. Those are legitimate concerns, and I take them seriously in feasibility conversations. But I am more curious about where you stand on this. As developers, designers, or property owners, do you see tensile structures as a premium worth paying for the right project, or do you default to safer structural options because the local expertise just is not there yet?
