Your fandom spaces were all built by so called "proshippers"
The Four Discoursemen
βWhy is all the best art from this ship artist?β
Because theyβre creating what they love.
βWhy is all the best art created by this porn artist?β
Because they donβt apologize or censor themselves.
βWhy is all the best art created by this artist who likes dark content?β
Because they arenβt tying their hands behind their back. If you worry about morality and βtasteβ in art, youβll only make whatβs acceptable, rather than whatβs interesting.
"Wah, why aren't fandoms fun anymore?"
Because you keep policing people's headcanons, making fun of them and calling them horrible things, and on top of that, you're somehow claiming to be a safe space for people to express their creativity, yet turning around and harassing them anyways because you've made a billion exceptions to the "don't police people" rule and you think, like everyone else who's made their own exceptions, that your exceptions justify harassment.
So you're making fandom into a field of rat traps where nobody even dares interact with anyone, or shares art anymore, because you still might just attack them for it because they did something as simple as writing a canonically soft character as... a softie.
Let people do their "cringe" y/a romances, let people do their "gross" ships, let people write those characters as jerks or softies. Let them, and mean it when you say you'll let them, instead of soapboxing about it in a patronizing post but not really meaning what you're soapboxing about.

call this cringe and reheated nachos all you want but i'll say it for people who haven't heard it before:
LEARN FANDOM ETIQUETTE BEFORE ENGAGING WITH FANDOM SPACES.
dont barge into fandom spaces and complain when you see groups who ship problematic things, who like problematic dynamics, who mischaracterize characters, who write shitty fanfiction one shots of their rare pairs, who do polls on "what character from (fandom) would be most likely to (blank) in truth or dare?"
dont run in and call them cringe, especially in older fandoms too. follow the "dead dove, do not eat" warnings on fics. if you don't know the "dead dove, do not eat" term:
"the "dead dove: do not eat" phrase originates from a 2003 episode of the sitcom arrested development (season 2, episode 3), where character michael bluth opens a paper bag labeled with that phrase, finds a dead dove inside, and says, "i don't know what i expected".
if the fic says its gonna have major character death, tagged with incest, tagged with rape, tagged with unconventional kinks, tagged with literally ANYTHING controversial or something you don't like... don't read it! its made for the people who DO want to read that stuff. back off peoples harmless fiction. its not going to hurt you.
and for fandom members, tag your stuff accordingly to avoid puritans bitching that we're trying to "groom" people, tagging our stuff helps us be less demonized as it gives the ability to filter it out for those who don't want it.
How antis look at you when they ignore every warning for problematic content and they end up seeing problematic content
