Anthony Browne: A Tudor Courtier Born for Greatness
Born on June 29, 1443, Sir Anthony Browne became one of the most influential English knights of the late 15th century, serving through the turbulent years that followed the Wars of the Roses. A loyal supporter of the House of York, Browne fought at the decisive Battle of Bosworth Field in 1485, where Richard III was defeated and Henry Tudor became King Henry VII. His loyalty during this pivotal moment helped secure his place in the new Tudor regime.
Under Henry VII, Browne was rewarded with important positions, including Standard Bearer of England and Governor of Queenborough Castle. He became a trusted royal servant, laying the foundation for a family that would remain prominent during the Tudor period. His son, Sir Anthony Browne the Younger, would later become a close companion of Henry VIII, ensuring the Browne family's influence continued into the next generation.
