animism, in simple terms, is the belief or worldview that the world is alive with presence.
not just humans. not just animals. but rivers, trees, mountains, stones, weather, places, ancestors, and more.
animism does not always mean “everything has a human-like soul.”
sometimes it means everything participates in relationship.
the question becomes less “is this object alive?” and more:
how do i live respectfully in a world full of beings?
Thinking more on animism, realistically, I am an animist. But I hesitated to call myself one with seeing so many animists who treat energy/souls and the like of animals, plants, spirits, objects, etc the same way they treat humans. To me that just isn't accurate, and is even repressive to one's spiritual knowledge and capabilities. Maybe this is a common thing, maybe I've just been seeing a lot of this oddly specific sliver of animistic belief.
Cause I mean, yes, treat everything living and non-living with kindness and respect (unless you need to defend your peace from someone/something that threatens it), but attaching a human likeness isn't necessary. To me that's taking a step backwards in showing respect and forming connection because you're not only assigning human assumptions, unspoken rules/customs, expectations, etc onto something that isn't human, but you're expecting to recieve all those same human behaviors back. That's what I personalty don't like.
I think the biggest contributor to this is our ego as a species and society, this unconcious belief in many people that humans are "above" other beings. So to some animists treating something without human standards equates to treating them as lesser, which is just not true. I don't believe much of anyone/anything is "lesser" or "better" than anything else. Just different. And it's really beautiful and enlightening getting to learn how to commune/connect with another energy or spirit that adheres to a different convention. Yes it can be difficult, takes some studying, and requires practice/patience. But it is all so rewarding!
Voting is Not Virtue -It is Duty and Diligence
You don't have to like Democrats at all. Hell, I don't like a lot of them either. That's not why I vote for them. Voting is not a popularity contest and it is not an arena where virtue tends to win.
You are picking the people who get to decide what kind of resistance you face in protests. You are picking the people who decide how to deploy the DoJ and other branches of law enforcement against your political club, your church, your communities. You are picking how zoning laws get decided on, who gets let into your communities in the first place.
Too many leftists and center-left folks have swallowed and then propagated right-wing talking points. When people say that Republicans and Democrats are two wings of the same bird, you should be able to see now what bullshit that is. It is pushing you to denigrate and deny the power of your vote. When people say 'they are both as bad' when one side is actively dismantling the ability of people to be safe in their homes, get married, have due process of the law, and provide for their families, you should be able to see with your own eyes now that this is bullshit. When one side propagates multiple simultaneous trade wars, not only lowering our standing in the world but actively hollowing out our ability to live, let alone thrive, you should be able to see the bullshit for what it is.
If you do not get involved in the political process, do not sit here and bitch about how hopeless everything is. Angela Davis did not tell you to sit down, she told you to fucking vote, and to keep on pushing long-term for the things we need. If you cannot see, top to bottom, how necessary it is to keep on pushing for change and to keep on voting, to keep on pushing for folks and yes, be disappointed and keep fucking showing up, then you do not have the stomach for any kind of revolutionary action and you are a liability to the communities you would hope to advocate for.
We are in this for the long haul. Our enemies have been for the last 50+ years. If you want something left to fight for at the end of the day, if you think that the way things are cannot continue, then stop denying every avenue for change to come through. One of the most straightforward ways is the ballot box. Are we going to get everything we want? Not immediately, hell maybe not even in our lifetimes. That should not the deciding factor on whether we keep advocating, keep fighting, keep doing the work. If you are going to see things improve, you have to dedicate to doing the small things, the not-so-sexy things, the small actions that lead to big change, and for keeping on showing up. Not just for the flashy protests. You need to show up in ways that matter to your communities. Protests are visible, but they are not always the best use of time, energy, or organizations' power.
If you are going to take lessons from history, look at how the Civil Rights era was able to make change. Bottom up, concerted efforts in multiple small arenas from dedicated work and ongoing multigenerational efforts which included advocacy, care, and a lot of background support. If you approach this from a tactical POV, which I believe are one of several useful ways to do so, then understand how many people were behind one front-line protester, one advocate, one person with a microphone calling for change. We cannot do it all. We should not. We should and can do what is in our power to do, and for some of us the support we can give is our vote, and maybe a dollar as we try to continue to eke out an existence. For others, front-line work is needed from them. For others, support like watching kids, making meals, or doing back-end organizing.
If you take the step of denying your power of the vote, of denying your ability to vocally make change, you are doing the enemy's work for them. They want that control because you can gum up the works by putting their opposition in charge. An opposition that is more likely to listen to you because you fucking showed up to vote. Democrats have no need to cater to those who will not show up, and leftists are notoriously shit at it, and that has to change. We need to be concentrated avenues of change, and in order to do that we not only need to show up, we need to stay involved.
Rather than this be a call for the status quo, it is me saying if you want the status quo to change you have to be willing and able to show up. Look how few people show up to zoning or school board meetings. Look how few people advocate for the poor at these! Look how many rich fucks get away with robbery at them! These are avenues of power -use them! If you leave them aside you are leaving aside the levels of power, and many of the means to make effective intergenerational change.
a simple animist objectum flag for my server, animism isn't super common right now in the objectum community but I know it used to be a lot more prevalent and used to inform people's objectum attractions and their beliefs towards objects themselves, so I don't want to deny that part of the community
I'm using this as an emoji in my server, this is free for anyone to use :>

The Sky, Sea, and Land Come to Protect Me ~ Sigil ~
I don't consider myself pagan, but am an animist and wanted to share an experience.
Anti animism and science (?, wtf was happening here) was telling someone about my animist beliefs and them saying "oh, but obviously you don't think that bugs and plants and stuff have [souls and feelings]* tho. They don't have feelings."
*can't remember exact phrasing
Obviously yes?? I believe that about litterally everything. Not to mention there is quite litterally EVIDENCE of bees having fun playing with balls? Spiders care for and love thier babies? Trees and fungi appear to communicate with one another with electrochemical signals? Ive litterally told this person about these things. Why would they think I would agree.
Anyways, be courteous to plants and bugs, even if you aren't animist; they are feeling and thinking beings too.
This is anti animism.
Animistic beliefs are not so outlandish as to be "obviously" not believed. Furthermore, a lot of animistic beliefs are based in grounded observations of the world around us. Pretending that we just "make it up" is another tool used to discredit animists.
