this is... I don’t know, a PSA about comments on both writing and art, I guess?
Its really important to writers and artists both that you let them know that you are enjoying their work.
And yeah, kudos and likes are a decent way to let them know, and reblogs and retweets are helpful in getting a wider audience, but in all honesty??
Sometimes that means nothing after there’s been nothing but radio silence for weeks, months, years.
This is meant especially for people who aren’t so popular in certain parts of the fandom. They need that reassurance that their work is appreciated, that people are actually reading it and taking it in.
A lot of us in fandom aren’t in the greatest place mentally. A lot of us aren’t so known for whatever reason in certain circles. Not getting feedback from people who comment so regularly on more popular content but are actively reading your stuff is... it hurts.
It feels like that other fic/art had more of something that your content doesn’t have. It feels like you disappointed the people who consume your content.
This might just sound whiny and shit, but its coming from an honest place.
If you can, leave at least a “I love this!” on the stuff you read and enjoy/the art you view and enjoy. It will mean the absolute world to the person who created it. You’re not bothering them. You’re keeping them from never creating again out of frustration that no one seems to care.
