Honestly, what is gratefulness without action? Action is showing your Provider that you you appreciate and adore His Mercy upon your flaw filled self so much, that you utilize the goodness He has granted you, to bring goodness to those around you.
Words of remembrance and thanks are vital too, as they keep our hearts soft. And yet, how amazing is it that while actions also keep our own hearts soft, they also soften the hearts of those around us whom we are able to bring goodness to? (and even this feat itself is an honor and a mercy from Allah, subhanAllah!)
That is the ultimate success, the ultimate act of gratefulness in this world.
And I am slowly coming to realize that this is one of the many, many reasons why the companions of Rasulullah sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam were the best of the best of the best of generations. They internalized this. Even during their trials, during the most excruciatingly difficult of times they faced, they never stopped being grateful, neither through action, nor through speech.
Allah had Mercy on them, and they had mercy upon their brethren on Earth. For them, radhiAllahu anhum, it was as simple as that.
May Allah make us of those who are grateful, not only with our speech, but even more so with the blessings He has gifted us with, with the privileges He has bestowed, and ultimately trusted us with.
