FUCK I REBLOGGED SO MANY OF THESE I DON’T KNOW WHICH ONE YOU’RE REFERENCING.
Doing them in order of most recently reblogged to furthest out (i'm tired brain no word right)
Building a Deck - Lance, Horatio. Both mechanically inclined, but does not mean they would be the best at it, simply because they would goof off for a good bit of it.
Picking an outfit for an important occasion - Zadok, Samir. Zadok has an eye for what goes together, and Samir will tell you to your face if something looks awful/
Do they draw/paint a lot? - Amazia draws maps, Lance draws awful dicks on things, Horatio draw schematics, Zadok is a doodler of anything and everything, and Samir makes medical diagrams.
Are they good or bad at making handicrafts? - Amazia does Macrame crafts and shibari when situations arise, Lance cannot glue two pieces of paper together to save his life, Horatio makes figurines out of spare junk and parts they find laying around, Zadok refuses to try any sort of handicraft, and Samir does origami which he attempts to hid by returning the obviously folded paper back into the container.
Character asks background stuff
What is the origin of their personality? And let's be honest - how much of it is projecting?
Amazia- Originally she was one of several lego mini figures I stole from my brothers collection, which has since moved with me 3 times and I refuse to give up. She’s changed a lot, and yes a decent amount is me self projecting some attributes I wish I had. (Good with ladies, confident in her lack of romantic attraction, etc.) Changes include name, gender, sexual attraction, character goals (still a work in progress).
Lance - Lance has gone through one major change, and that’s my brothers fault. He’s trans (FTM) but besides that, he’s still the goof ball muscle with a heart of gold, terrible jokes, a lot of trauma that he doesn’t want to deal with, plus a past that’s coming to get him at every bend. He’s also my whump punching bag, sorry man.
Horatio - they’ve also gone through a lot of changes. One major new development is they are intersex, and are officially aroace. Gender fluid, but I use they/them pronouns most of the time because I’m lazy (they don’t mind, most of the time they’re too busy working to consider gender identity on a regular basis.) They’re an orphan from a closed off system that was taken under Samir’s wing in an attempt to keep them out of the system. They’re fairly laid back, and have a main goal of one day finding out what happened to their family back home.
Zadok - She’s a newcomer, despite using a recycled name. She’s trans as well, (MTF) and was kicked out by her parents before she turned 18, and snuck aboard the Melantha and was taken in by Lance. She’s cynical and fairly closed off, but does have a sense of humor that confuses older members of the crew. She’s very interest in medical stuff, so tends to spend a lot of time around Samir.
Samir - Has gone through some changes since his original introduction, but the last name has not changed once. Dr. Gaylen is the first gay OC I ever had, and has the most fitting name possible. It was an accident, I swear. Samir is basically my version of McCoy from Star Trek, just with more repressed gay thoughts, a tequila problem, undiagnosed eating disorder (that’s my projection congrats on a lore drop) as well as an abusive ex-girlfriend that at the time, and for a good portion of the story, Samir does not realize was abuse.
How big is their role in the story? Do they make a frequent appearance or are they a character with little "screentime" but big influence? Or are they just a favourite background guy?
OKAY SO HERE’S THE FUCKING PROBLEM. AMAZIA WAS SUPPOSED TO BE THE MAIN CHARACTER. BUT LANCE KEEPS GETTING IN THE WAY.
Also, I could make Horatio or Zadok the main character. It’s very, very difficult. But these characters or basically one big found family working on a cargo ship (amazia is a deck lead and no, I don’t care if thats not a real thing it’s my sci-fi story I do what I want) and somehow in the end they become an instrumental part of ending a generational war between the Gaia-Terra system (Our sun, the solar system surrounding it and additional planets that haven’t been discovered yet) and the Akiram system (have not found a star for this system, but there are a few additional planets with large resource deposits which is what started the feud)
Anywhos, they’re all important, as Amazia is in charge, Lance is a problem causer and makes plot move, Horatio is an undocumented citizen basically and really shouldn’t be sent places on their on, Zadok is a problem solver who only speaks up when she’s bored, and Samir is the one who has to patch everyone up and knock some sense into them.
Two original characters relationship
8. How do they communicate with each other? Are there any recurring phrases or gestures unique to their relationship?
Amazia and Lance are BFFS and thick as thieves. They have a tendency to communicate using gestures that don’t mean anything to any other soul in existence but will send each other into fits of laughter, as well as getting tasks done. Amazia tends to bounce ideas off of Lance while their in the mess hall, while Lance likes to bother Amazia in her office when he is supposed to be working in engineering.
There is an inside joke between the two of them where Amazia will just straight up call Lance ugly cause she, as a lesbian, does not find men attractive. This is funny to them because before lance transitioned, they did hook up several times out of sheer boredom.
9. What is one quality they have in common?
Amazia and Lance are both human disasters. Amazia might be a leader, but she cannot keep herself together to save her life. Lance might be an engineer, but he cannot remember anything about electrical or mechanical operations unless he is actively working on something.
