The subject chosen for this painting is taken from Book I of the Aeneid , is the encounter between Aeneas, accompanied by his faithful companion Achates, and his mother Venus, who appears to the two in the guise of a huntress.

I imagine them facing off against Odysseus’ crew or something. I love them so much
