As yall know, I havenāt posted much this year. There are many reasons for this, and one of them is that Iāve been meditating on and practicing the power of silence. In many ways, itās caused a hugeā¦
Trying to get back into writing again, and I have a few more posts written that Iāll be sharing soon on SpiritRoots.co! If you have any stories about what silence means to your craft or spiritual practice, I would love to hear them :)
Also shout out to @afrocentric-divination in this post - thank you for inspiring me over the years in many ways <3
Lmao how true this right here! Hahaha that shit will be -21° too. I've nearly gotten frost bite fingers a few times mixing up them baths šš¤£š„¶ Primitiverootsconjure.com #primitiveroots #primitiverootsconjure #witch #witchcraft #folkmagic #rootworker #conjurewoman #cunningfolk #practioners #conjurers #espiritista #palera #yayanganga #aborisha #spiritualbath #realtalk #realdeal #truth #itstrue #itstruetho https://www.instagram.com/p/B1ms85_nvdn/?igshid=qgy9x08kyedi
When you cleanse yourself. Feed your ori. And sleep in a fresh white nightgown on crisp white sheets... aaahhh....
If I am of African descent, do I have to be initiated in order to connect/give thanks to the Orishas? Like say if I wanted to include them in my altars, does that require initiation? Iām referring to Santeria in this btw.
You donāt necessarily have to be initiated at all to practiceĀ SanterĆa, but you do have to be working under the guidance of an ilé orĀ casaĀ where you can get the necessary support and information from initiated priests and priestesses to know how to worship the Orishas and approach them respectfully. More information on this here.
So the short answer is āyes,ā you could do what you described⦠but it would be very, very risky and could wind up ruining any potential for being on good terms with the Orishas or even worse, it could seriously damage your wellbeing andĀ your life.Ā A big part of the issue is that you needĀ to be able to communicate with the Orishas to make sure that youāre on good terms and that youāre working with them correctly. And you can only do those things by getting help and learning the traditions from an ilĆ©.
Worshipping Orishas without guidance from an ilĆ© would be like having a conversation with a stranger whose life story youāve only read about in books or on the internet and who can hear everything youāre saying but you canāt hear or understand them very clearly. It could be fine for a while, but if you said something that offended them or if you didnāt understand what they were asking you to do, you wouldnāt know how to fix the situation or even necessarily realize that anything was wrong until it was too late and there were already serious consequences happening in your life that you donāt want.
OccasionallyĀ saying some simple prayers to them or lighting candles for them sometimes is probablyyyy alright (no promises)⦠but reaching out to them very consistently or making an altar space for them without traditional guidance is much more likely to run into those major issues. The OrishasĀ have very specific likes and dislikes (that can only be learned through oral traditions), and they do take action in peopleās lives depending on how they are treated and respected.

Girl, Where Have You Been?: The spill with NHJ
Happy October yāall! And welcome back to NaturalHairJunkies.com.
First, I just want to admit that I am super duper dupperrrr excited about being able to finally and comfortably share where life has taken me. I know that I step in periodically and blog ā or mostly had guest bloggers come and give some great advice in my absence. For that, I am genuinely grateful.
Letās get started..
Girl, Where Have You Been?
So, letās get the awkward part out of the way. I wasnāt āin hidingā but I was in a more introspective space, working on myself from the inside out. I had a lot to figure out ā which was primarily figuring out who and what I am and navigating my spirituality. Along the way, Iāve been through a few initiations/ceremonies. Iāve been studying and will continue to be a lifelong student of African Traditional Religion (specifically Palo Mayombe and the Lucumi).
I honestly was uncertain about the future of Natural Hair Junkies and if there was a way to incorporate my authentic self on this blog ā and there is. Thereās a way, I just had to sit down and plan it out.
Life came at me fast, but a lot of things are settling and Iām finally on a path where I can candidly share.
First up: Whatās going on with your hair?
Well, to be honest my hair is a mixture of what happens when Covid and laziness hit you hard. I installed mini twist in my hair on April 10th, 2020. When wash day would roll around, I would just wash my mini twist. Eventually, those mini twist locāed and I had no choice but to just interlock my roots and keep it moving. Now, do I intend on keeping my hair like this forever? No. I fully intend on sitting down and either combing them out OR just being completely lazy and cutting them off.
I never, ever, fully intended on committing to locs. So, I know that this isnāt a forever thing for me. Iām already planning, my escape; but Iām just lazy right now. Iām locked uppppp (due to covid) and I just donāt see myself doing my hair right now, but I know that itās time to get back to that. I do miss my loose fro. Itās a weird situation to be in, but change is definitely coming. Iāll be able to share that experience and change on the blog too. Look out for us on YouTube to catch our new hair journey. and what happens next.
What can we expect from you, the Blog and the Instagram?
You can expect that new new ish⦠But on a serious tip, you can expect a lot of changes. As some of you know, I run Crowning Soul LLC. So, I will be teaching divinations ā doing lives, conversation between both platforms. There will be a lot more conversations, candid and genuine.
There will be blogging more about my spiritual life and practices. I will be discussing my hair journey and the changes that will come with that. Iāll also talk and show more of my skincare routine. Youāll get hair, skin and body product reviews. Book reviews for spiritual growth. DIY rituals and baths ā all of that. And possibly even a podcast because that seems to be a suggestion I get more often than not.Ā
We are shifting back into a black ass space. Weāre growing. Weāre elevating. We are getting back to our glow and flow of things. And I am genuinely excited for whatās to come. Thank you all for continuing to rock with me and not lose hope. Cheers to whatās to come.
āWelcome back. Welcome back, WELCOOOOME BACCCKKKKā *in my Ma$e voice*
