I would like to throw hands
today i made the first draft of my version of tenerife for my pokémon region based on the canary islands and i'm so happy 😭😭😭 just as in real life, this is the largest island so this took a while and it was kinda tricky to figure out the different levels and mountains (funnily enough the teide was more or less easy) and also after doing gran canaria all the islands left are gonna be smaller so that's also a relief.
anyways, here's akonech !!!
this is only the first draft, most likely stuff will change (especially the towns and cities) but yeah. there was just so much stuff to add here man.
here's the second island you'll visit in the region of abora, based in fuerteventura: sinbania !! here's the previous post, where i detail the basic stuff to know for this game in case this is the first one in the project you see.
i think i'm gonna drop the uncoloured version of each island as well just so you can see the details a bit better:
here are the points of interest:
sinbania sea
tower cape: the northernmost point of sinbania is occupied by sinbania tower, an old military fort that is now the pokémon gym of the island, where you'll battle the water-type expert nayra, an old seafarer that will make you travel to the sinbania lighthouse for the gym puzzle, where you'll have to find her targets from the observation deck.
la yrichena: one of the two settlements in the island, this is a traditional farming community known for its iconic windmills and it's simple way of living. here you'll be able to grow berries in your own fields. story-wise, here you'll encounter your rival odile, who'll tell you she just visited the orange lumbre, and she was safely in her house at the top of cliffedge mountain. she'll want you to meet her, and will wait for you at the base of the mountain.
secluded beach: just as the name suggest, this beach is surrounded by steep mountains, which make it quite inaccessible. you'll be able to find fossils long buried here below the sand.
cliffedge mountain: the highest peak in the island, this dormant volcano was sacred to the chegua, and its interior is full of ancient chegua paintings that are preserved through the job of the orange lumbre, cathaysa, a direct descendant of those who honoured the mountain. the underground lake seems to be the most sacred place in the mountain, surrounded by the prettiest paintings. as you might've guessed, when you first come here to meet odile, you'll see some team torchlight grunts, which will alert your friend. you'll make your way to the top of the mountain fighting team torchlight, until you'll get to cathaysa's house, where admin moneyba, the cousin of adayro, will be intimidating the lumbre. you'll fight moneyba, but it will be futile. moneyba will abduct the lumbre, after saying that this whole plan is for the better and you shouldn't stop them. in a sealed chamber deep underground you'll be able to fight and catch regirock after you become champion.
sinbania desert: this expansive desert at the base of cliffedge mountain is marked by an ancient processional path that will guide you through the massive dunes. in a house by the coast lives the gourmet, who'll buy you several ingredients and berries.
cinder badlands: their desolate appearance are a result of the last eruption of cliffedge mountain, long before the chegua even arrived to sinbania. this large swath of arid and uncultivable land makes that the two communities of the island are quite isolated from one another.
sinbania lighthouse: this lighthouse is situated in the easternmost point of abora, and so it has been guiding travellers to this region for generations. here is where the gym puzzle of nayra takes place, finding several wooden cutouts hidden within the eyesight of the lighthouse's lookout post. you'll have to beat yaiza's time in the challenge to be able to face the gym leader.
el adago city: this is the largest settlement in all of sinbania. it was built around the el adago crater, or just el adago for sure, a large depression in the land that formed at the same time as the cinder badlands, that contains the adago cave, a lava-filled fiery cavern that makes the whole ground in el adago city quite hot, with dense heat emanating from it and making the buildings feel like illusions during the hottest days. at the edge of town lies the bridge of sinbania, that separates the island from minor islet. here you'll meet acoidan, who'll tell you the chegua trial lies somewhere beyond the bridge.
minor islet: this islet has never been inhabited, and in fact the chegua considered it sacred for the pokémon, so they made it a duty to protect it, building a submerged temple to make sure no one tried to settle the islet. it is covered by white beach sand on the bottom half, and a rocky desert on the top. in the pokémon center nurse joy will make acoidan and you able to ride bruxish to dive into the chegua temple, which stands between the shipwreck of the s.s. corsario.
s.s. corsario: this is the shipwreck of an old galley with settlers that tried to inhabit minor islet, but found their demise by either hitting the chegua temple built there or, according to some locals, hitting a mysterious life force that destroyed the ship. here you'll have to complete the chegua trial of sinbania and face the guardian of evasion. completing this trial will enable the reduplicated pokémon to have independent abilities from the original one (when the pokémon can have more than one ability).
and finally, here's the inspiration for each place + buildings:
