SPANISHMARAVILLAS:
Lady Madrid by Pereza : Pop-rock song, one of my personal favourite songs, also Pereza is one of the most iconic pop rock groups ever here
En Algún Lugar by Duncan Dhu: An iconic rock song from the 80s, kinda philosophical and vague in their lyrics, Duncan Dhu is also one of the most important groups from the 80s.
Prefiero by Antílopez: A fun little song to sing with your friends that brings a smile to everybody’s face :)
Al Respirar by Vetusta Morla: Vetusta Morla are the kings of Spain indie scene, and this is one of their most beautiful songs.
Ni Una Sola Palabra by Paulina Rubio: The corniest and diva-est anthem in Spanish, sung by the hispanic Britney Spears herself, Paulina Rubio.
Ella by Bebe: A truly feminist anthem, this song empowers and gives chills with every listen.
Yo Te Esperaré by Cali Y El Dandee: A 2000s gem, this was the song that everybody listened to when they were like 12 and quoted lyrics thinking they were deep, but now sounds cheesy af. You know that kind of songs. Also, it was one of the first urban / latin / whatever you want to call songs that were big that I can remember, before Reguetón and Trap.
Devuélveme A Mi Chica by Hombres G: Here I explain what was La Movida, this was one of the most iconic songs from there and everybody knows the lyrics here, is a legendary song at this point.
De la Tierra Hasta Marte by Alfred García: The first single of Alfred García, an OT 2017 contestant and Spain’s representant in Eurovision 2018, the whole album is amazing, one of my all-time favourite, and the genre is pop-rock I suppose.
El Rey del Glam by Alaska y Dinarama: Another La Movida classic, Alaska is also one of the most iconic Spanish personalities ever, she embodied the Movida as a whole, and a lot of her songs are bops.
Antes Muerta Que Sencilla by María Isabel: One of my childhood songs, and one of the diva-est and most iconic Spanish song, with this song María Isabel won Eurovision Junior 2004 when she was 9. A true icon.
Purpurina by Alberto Gambino: THE modern party song, is one of those songs that are so bad they become kinda good. I personally don’t like it, but it has become a really big iconic thing within the youth. Peak Spanish Culture.
Mediterráneo by Los Rebeldes: 80s anthem, yes, from La Movida, it talks about different summer spots in Spain and Summer in general, the song is just a whole Summer mood.
Aquí No Hay Playa by The Refrescos: Another 80s bop, this one talks about different parts of Madrid, it’s kinda like a virtual tour of the city, while mocking it for not having a beach :(
Escuela de Calor by Radio Futura: One of the most 80s songs ever, this song screams Summer and also has a lot of sexy vibes.
Cayetano by Carolina Durante: One of the best things that have happened to Spain’s music scene, a indie rock song about the stereotype of pijos, a stereotype I also discuss in this post.
Maquillaje by Mecano: Introducing what I like to call the Spanish ABBA, they defined the 80s, iconic stands short for this group, like 90% of their songs are legendary and everybody knows them, a true cultural phenomenon.
Vivir Así Es Morir De Amor by Camilo Sesto: The queen of karaokes, and also Camilo Sesto is one of the best male voices ever to come out of Spain. I would say this song is kinda like “Sweet Caroline” or “Don’t Stop Believing” in the karaoke sense, is that massive. A true icon.
La Mujer de Verde by IZAL: Another example of the indie scene in Spain right now, my favourite tbh. IZAL is one of the best groups out there, and this song is amazing.
El Universo Sobre Mí by Amaral: This is one of those songs you just are born knowing the lyrics of. Like if you were to shout the start of the song in the middle of any Spanish city, everybody would follow it. And it happens with a lot of other Amaral songs, I don’t know what she has, but she has made so many iconic songs, all of them in the 2000s. A queen. Also this song, even if it was really popular and mainstream, covered really serious issues and I find that honestly amazing.
Años 80 by Los Piratas: This song is one of the best rock songs in Spanish ever, like it’s straight up good. This is a song to play on your car with your friends, to sing along to while on a road trip or something like that. Also Los Piratas is that group you know it’s just really good and has some amazing songs like this one.
Él No Soy Yo by Blas Cantó: I made this post when it was announced Blas Cantó would represent Spain in Eurovision 2020, so yeah, this is just a taste of what he is capable of!
Ay Pena, Penita, Pena by Lola Flores: This post was an introduction to Flamenco and to the Eternal Queen of Spain, the legend that is Lola Flores, the best cantaora there ever has been.
El Mal Querer by Rosalía masterpost: This post has a link to individual posts I made about all the songs in Rosalía’s album “El Mal Querer”, personally the best album of the decade.
Un Año Más by Mecano: This song is THE New Year’s song, it talks about New Years in Spain, some families even have the tradition of playing this song on New Year’s Eve.
La Raja de Tu Falda by Estopa: Estopa is one of the best Spanish groups ever and they were the 2000s, this song is just one of their multiple legendary songs. They do rumba catalana, a genre really popular in Catalonia.
Y Nos Dieron Las Diez by Joaquín Sabina: Joaquín Sabina is one of the most respected male artists right now in Spain alongside Joan Manuel Serrat, he serves as an inspiration to many, and this is one of his most iconic songs, that follows a story-like structure and has a very commented origin!
Mediterráneo by Joan Manuel Serrat: This song is considered to be the best Spanish song ever, and Joan Manuel Serrat, alongside Joaquín Sabina, is one of the most respected male artists in Spain right now, loved by many, a poet and with really beautiful lyrics.
Vuelve by Andrés Suárez: Andrés Suárez is my favourite male voice ever, and he makes amazing lyrics, as he is a singer-songwriter. Vuelve is his most well-known song, and for me, one of the most beautiful songs ever written.
Justo by Rozalén: Rozalén is in my opinion the most talented songwriter in Spain, and one of my favourite singers too. Justo talks about the Spanish Civil War, and it is a heartbreakening true story.
Comiéndote a Besos by Rozalén: This is, in my opinion, Rozalén’s best song, and it talks about HIV in a beautiful way.
