ultimately, i don't think leno is a bad person, i just think he has really big and complicated feelings about things that he isn't equipped to handle in a healthy way.
yeah, it can be easy to get caught up on feeling loyal to a person you've known and played with since you were 8 years old, but along comes time and distance and you realize that maybe you feel better without someone who makes you feel like shit constantly.
obviously i think will tends to seem more emotionally mature and able to recognize these patterns in his friend, so i am inclined to believe that whatever happened between them was brewing for awhile, and suddenly blew up. and that could be related to sooo many different possibilities.
gabe is a sweetheart with peace and love in his heart for both of his friends but not enough emotional bandwidth to string those two back together. i'm glad will still has a relationship with gabe; he seems like a lifelong type of friend.
in the end, a friend group consisting of 3 people is a complex balance to try to maintain unless everyone is on the same page. maybe one day they'll figure it out
