I get why Lenny is pissed lol.

despite growing up in vancouver, aiden wasn’t a fan of the rain. he could tolerate it, but he’d have to constantly bite back complaints and suffer through whatever he was doing with a grimace on his face. safe to say, definitely not his favorite weather. it was honestly half the reason he’d picked hockey over soccer as a kid; inside sport meant never a chance of getting rained on.

so now here he is in a lonely july day in vancouver and for some reason it’s pouring. it’s raining cats and dogs out there, his mom would say and she’d be right because the wind was howling and the thunder was crashing and aiden’s boyfriend was across the fucking country at hockey practice. so now it was miserable outside and miserable inside too.

mack at least was also miserable, since will was also occupied on the other side of the country, so they were sitting together in their living room, watching the rain pour down the windows. aiden had a cup of coffee in his hand- black with a little bit of sugar- and mack had a hot chocolate he’d forced aiden to make him.

it was nice to finally be able to just chill with his brother for once; no boyfriends, no teammates, no hockey. they couldn’t even practice today bc the rink’s power had gone out and hadn’t come back up yet. it was honestly a miracle mack hadnt gone stir crazy yet, but maybe he was just as relieved as aiden was to have an excuse for a break.

“when’s leno coming over to van again?” his little brother asked, still facing the window.

“next week. he’s on the same flight as will dude, i’ve told you this a hundred times.” aiden tracked one droplet down the windowpane and when that drop reached the bottom he found another one and repeated the process. he was stuck at home, inside, but homesick for his boyfriend on the other side of the country. how stupid was that.

the two boys fall into silence again, the only noise being the rain hitting the sides of the house and the thunder overhead occasionally.

“i don’t know how you deal with long distance,” mack said suddenly, body tensing slightly next to him, “i’ve been apart from will for a month and it just- it fucking sucks.”

aiden sucked in a long breath through his teeth, shifting slightly in his seat. he didn’t know how to tell his brother whatever he and will had going on was probably slightly co-dependent, but he understood the sentiment regardless. he and ryan had pretty much always done long distance. their short time together in boston was still spent separated by a couple miles of distance and an old school rivalry. and then ryan went to washington and they’d seen each other even less.

honestly mack had it right. long distance fucking sucked. aiden saw his boyfriend twice a seaon when he was in boston for a game and then occasionally during the summer when they had time. it was a really rough schedule. but-

“we love each other,” aiden said simply, turning his head to look at mack who looked so young all curled up next to him. “long distance sucks and i wish we didn’t have to do it because i miss him, but we make it work because we love each other.”
