Tyler Posey on Scott's Mental Health in Season 5
Tyler Posey: I mean we've dealt with some pretty dark things⦠to me, I think the darkest stuff that we've ever dealt with is suicide, and that happened with ["Motel California"] in season 3A. That was, to me, one of the darkest episodes that we've had. Interviewer: What kind of challenges is Scott going through? I heard he's going to have some sort of mental breakdown? Tyler Posey: Absolutely, yeah. He's got a couple of mental breakdowns so far this season and it's not even done yet... We're toying with the idea that Scott's pack is being ripped apart from him, only he doesn't know why and he thinks he's the reason why his pack is being ripped apart. That has some turmoil in him, because he's all about keeping the pack together and staying strong. We've never seen him this vulnerable since season one, when he first got turned into a werewolf and was like, āOh my God, I don't know what the hell's happening to me.ā So now he's vulnerable, he doesn't know what the hell is happening, he doesn't know how to fix it. And on top of all the stuff that's happening to him and his pack, there's people dying. So he has no idea where to turn, what to tackle first, and it creates some stress for him. Scott's usually got it togetherāI mean, he's really depressed all the time and sad because people are dyingābut he's always got a plan of action. This time, he kind of doesnāt. Via (x).

Written for @teenwolf-metaās Meta May Monday theme: Transformation.
Iāve talked before about how the conversation between Scott and Liam at the beginning of Heartless shows how much their dynamic has changed since season 5, but I also love how the plan to catch the Ghost Rider in Heartless (6x07)Ā is a reversal of the one to catch the Dread Doctor in Strange Frequencies (5x07).
In both episodes, theyāre trying to catch a supernatural enemy with a very risky plan, and eventually, in both, the hellhound will show up and completely throw things off.
But in 6x07, instead of crumbling under the pressure of trying to solve everything on his own, Scott has Liam, Hayden, Mason, and Corey to help him figure it out.
In 5x07, Liam angrily demands that Scott do everything he can to save Hayden--including coming up with a plan. Later, in 6x07, Liam is the one to come up with the plan. I think itās significant too that he then goes on to doubt the plan (of bringing Theo back), specifically because heās so worried and stressed about making the wrong choice re: Theo and Scott, as he ultimately did in 5a.
In 6x07, Hayden volunteers to be bait, rather than unknowingly acting as bait as she did in 5x07. She makes eye contact with Scott as she justifies it withĀ āIām faster,ā and Iāve always interpreted this look as a significant one--that sheās forgiven him, and genuinely wants to help. You can see how much it means to Scott as he looks back at her.
Even though Douglas and hellhound-Parrish ultimately throw things off, the chaos at the end of 6x07 only underlines how different things are from 5x07. The plan in 6x07 works, far more than the one in 5x07 did. Theo is there to help for real this time! The whole pack is working together, foregrounding the friendships and relationships that will ultimately tear apart the entire Wild Hunt.
Poseyās acting does a phenomenal job of communicating Scottās despair in 5A, but I really love the almost childlike uncertainty he brings to the table in this scene from Status Asthmaticus.
Haydenās dying, heās fallen out with Stiles, Maliaās in the wind and Kiraās been gone for days, and heās just seen the first glimpse of havoc the Beast is about to unleash, thanks to the busted school sign taking up half a halfway. And then Lydia texts himāa spot of hope!āso he goes to the library and canāt findĀ her but when he calls her, he hears the phone.
But thereās no Lydia.
Heās already uncertaināthereās been a lot of steeling breaths and half-glazed eyes, and the almost dissociative way he spoke with Theo at the beginning of the episodeābut thereās just something about the acting choice of holding the phone with both hands here that feels so small. Like a child clutching to a favourite animal in the dark, or a drowning man to a single piece of driftwood. He knows it isnāt going to help, not in any way that matters, but itās literally all he has left to hold on to.Ā
Scottās arc in s5 is really dependent on Poseyās ability to portray a lot of his emotional state through his body language and line delivery, and itās little moments like this that really sell the performance.
Y él nunca fue declarado culpable, jamÔs pagó por el daño que me hizo. No admitió su error y yo simplemente callé para asà tratar de olvidar.
