Two more sets of placemats finished this weekend. I had a lousy week and didn’t have the time or energy to work in my craft studio too much but finally felt in the mood to go in it today and I’m glad I did. I have yet to list any of the new stuff I’ve made these last few months so I’m making it my goal to work on that this coming week. This weeks sewing challenge is to sew something other than fabric. So I made a paper rose from old book pages with sewn edges. Took some trial and error but doing a straight stitch before cutting the petals out worked the best. Mostly I was hoping for the thread to add a touch of color but it didn’t provide the look I was hoping for. Week 3 of the 52 Week Sewing Challenge. The theme this week is: Make a pattern you already own but have never made. This jacket pattern is going to be fit my husband and was inspired by a length of fabric I got in with the bins of decorator samples I got a few months ago. I did a lot of internet searching for a bomber jacket pattern that looked more professionally designed rather than the very homemade designs I kept coming across. The pattern was exactly what I wanted except it was now out of print and no longer sold. Luckily I found a brand new one someone had listed on Etsy and grabbed it right up. This pattern is rated Advanced and that’s rather intimidating but I’m going to try my hardest to make it as instructed. It’s my first time using a Vogue pattern but it looks well written. I spent some time this evening tracing each piece in the size I’m cutting so I can make this pattern again in other sizes if I want to. The paper I’m using is the type of paper that’s used on the tables/beds in doctors offices. The week one challenge for the 52 Week Sewing Challenge is to organize your sewing space. I got a lot accomplished, but didn’t get to everything, but still enough to meet the challenge for this week. I share this room with our Newfie and a stray cat that’s recently adopted us. They sleep on this old sofa and had suddenly decided to rip it to shreds. I put a slipcover on it and they seem to like it. I also sorted the decorator fabric samples into new storage bins. I’d had most already sorted and stashed away but needed more bins for the rest. Also organized the patterns I plan to use in upcoming challenges into the order they’ll come up. Also finished 2 1/2 quilts so they are out of the way. I forgot to take the before shot, but it’s an easy visual - a men’s XL T-shirt down to a girly size tank top (whenever it decides to warm up).
