#2020 hell year

1. remember when lara jean said something like how high school is like sharks? that’s true, but not in the way high school comedies thing it does. sharks have to keep on swimming or they die (well, some of them) and in high school uh. you gotta keep moving. never stop in the middle of the hallway or the middle of the cafeteria. if you can’t find somewhere to sit circle the same ~4 tables until you hopefully spot someone you recognize.

2. as smash mouth once said, “the years start coming and they don’t stop coming”. cherish the people you have. things are weird. take lots of pictures.

3. at graduation i recognized about 1/3 of the names that were called. this is called being isolated in a small bubble and never leaving it. it’s very good for not having to interact with any “popular” rich white kids. i chose band as my bubble. i spent every morning as an upperclassman before school in the band room, i only hung out with band people outside of school, and i always stopped by the band room after school. i wasn’t even that good.

4. sometimes, studying is more important than hanging out. this is the last time you’ll get an education for free.

5. sometimes, hanging out is more important than getting 1 more hour of cramming.

6. join clubs. just being able to wander the school after most people are gone is a fun time. you can pour a lot of time into doing something fun with your friends and apparently it makes you “involved” and “a leader”.

7. if you need to get something done but it’s really hard , start a 15 minute timer and try to do as much as you can within those 15 minutes. if you want to keep going, good on you. if you don’t, hey at least you tried.

8. the humanities are important actually. even if you’re the most sciencey person, pay attention to analyzing literature or world history. it might seem useless but it’s what

9. SUPPORT THE ARTS. even if it’s just you and your friends going to see the school musical or showing up to an orchestra concert. 

10. literally no one is making you show up to a sports game. all of my friends are in marching band and despite that i’ve never been to a single sports game.
