Feeling a little bit sad. A little bit empty. A little too much pain for my liking. I went for a run this morning (which sucked because my music cut out halfway) which dulled it temporarily but it has come back and I don't know what to do.
Finding that I seem to be okay managing a week without therapy, coming up to 2 weeks I really struggle then I just hit this point where I switch off (because life still needs to go on and no one has time to sit there and feel things) and then I just feel .. empty. Sometimes the empty hurts but I think it is better than sitting on too many thoughts and feelings inside me.
Managed to get E’s vaccinations and GP check booked in. I still have to respond to the recall to get my iron levels checked again and see my GP but I will leave that for another day because I can only do one adult thing at a time.
On a brighter note, being in the office yesterday wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, probably because some people were working from home that day but getting there was such an anxiety spiking experience that by the time I got off the train I was ready to curl up and hide in the quiet.
I played Xenoblade 2 up to the exact point I stopped playing all those years ago (Gommit Plains btw) and I’m stopping for now since it’s 1am but I will commit to continuing this after I’ve slept. I gotta be honest though, I get why I didn’t return to this initially. The 3 hours I spent back then were painful because I had the most splitting headache ever for no fucking reason, but I think the game really did very little to encourage me to continue, and as I go through this all again I’m still sorta feeling that. Everything is just, so fucking slow. Can’t move and auto-attack which disrupts the flow of combat, arts need to be built up to by way of auto-attacking so you’re just standing still for ages at the start of every battle, and then arts do so little damage at this point that you’re just trying for Blade Arts instead which take ages to build up as well. It’s a combat system that forces me to be patient and wait for the entire battle to play out while asking very little of me, and by god is that boring. I’m gonna keep playing either way but I’m hoping to god the gameplay speed picks up soon as I get more blades and party members and all that jazz. Because compared to 1 and X this is a slog.
I can’t say I’m really feeling the narrative at this point either. At the very least 1 had done way more to intrigue me by this point, not gonna speak for X since I don’t really remember how I felt about that game’s intro but like, knowing X it was probably worse than this lol. Game made up for that with gameplay though, 2′s still dragging in that regard. But nah I think very little about the world or narrative goals or any of the characters have really been interesting or all that likeable by this point in the story, weird voice acting not helping all of that. I think the only thread I’m really interested in by this point is whatever the fuck’s up with Pyra because hey if you put a mysterious waifu in front of me I want to see that mystery unravelled, you know?
Now obviously, this is all sorta preliminary thoughts. Game’s narrative and gameplay could pick up dramatically and I might fall in love with it. It’s not looking the most promising in the world but no reason not to hold out hope, I can’t imagine the game’s reception would be as positive as it seems to be if it were just like it is at the start for its whole runtime. So uh, I am looking forward to seeing it open up, I suppose is the point.
