This may or may not be related to a fic I’m trying to write, but I’ve been thinking about Makoto’s graduation brick a lot recently.

It seems like such an odd thing to write, doesn’t it? Coming from Makoto, I mean. While the other two mentioned what they cherished through swimming, Makoto, the only one who isn’t swimming-obsessed, who sometimes gives the false impression that he’s only following his friends into this whole swimming business, whose life isn’t tied to water, who’s actually fucking scared of water, acknowledges swimming as what’s important to him. Just. Swimming.
