Can we have a Harry Potter AU where Regulus Black is the Death Eater spy turned potions master instead of Snape?
I can’t believe I only JUST realized all the comedy potential that is Sirius showing up to kill Peter 3rd year and finding his supposedly evil brother working at Hogwarts and having civil conversations with Remus about Harry’s grades
Please let this be after a full year of awkwardness of Regulus working with his evil brother’s ex
Sirius and Regulus are both convinced they’re the good brother
The best part of this is you’d probably get Regulus semi-parenting Harry bc he’s Sirius’s godson and parentless which makes him sort of a ward of House Black. (Also his grandma was a black by birth but that might be fanon). There’s various reasons why he might take Harry in, but it doesn’t really matter.
After third year Sirius is all set to parent Harry now that he’s free and then he finds out he has to contend with his little brother to do it. Sirius would try to be the fun parent but he’d probably fuck up a lot while Regulus is now used to dealing with kids all the time and is strict but fair. Sirius would want to go out and do things with Harry while Regulus would veto it on the grounds of being too dangerous. Then of course you’ve got stuff like the attack on the quidditch World Cup or the department of mysteries where you’d have some really cool moments where they’d be back to back fighting death eaters and casting spells and generally just trying to keep Harry alive.
Also the whole horcrux hunt and everything else including the diary in second year would be different bc he’d be on the look out for the pieces of Riddle’s soul. I have no doubt that 30 sec after seeing Ginny write in the diary he would have confiscated it and tried to destroy it.
Also I’d imagine Regulus’s DADA lessons would start very early from childhood. Harry would grow up with knowledge of curses and be somewhat aware of the threat on his life (which he’s grown used to) and being Very Chill about being famous, and Regulus giving pointers about how to handle the fame with manners, elegance, flair, and grace. (This might actually change Harry’s attitude towards Colin Creevey and his approach to Lockhart, going from defensive to offensive. ‘Course that’s nothing compared to Regulus’s deeply sarcastic hatred for everything Lockhart represents. He probably has several shouting matches with Dumbledore over that. Then watch what happens when Lockhart touches Harry his son. It gets ugly.)
