Following that IGN story from yesterday suggesting that Obsidian may be supporting Bethesda in development of Elder Scrolls and Fallout now, Jason Schreier has now reported that Obsidian's other projects have been cancelled, and they are now working on a Fallout game.

This isn't sustainability or growth. They're gutting those studios! The people who made these games great and who have been working on bringing new titles to continue that legacy are being thrown out, left behind. Development is being constrained. The art will suffer. The players will feel the loss. Only Microsoft's shareholders benefit from this supposed "growth strategy". Bethesda is far beyond the days where they were ready to shutter after one last release. They're in charge of two of the most beloved RPGs of the modern day. That kind of success doesn't come from the rapid turn around you often see in the modern games industry. It comes from long-term, dedicated, passionate developers making games that they love. I'm sure Microsoft was expecting a bigger cash cow when they acquired Bethesda, but that doesn't justify cutting their legs off.
