Victor Frankenstein syndrome aka you spent nights over nights crying and bleeding over this work and now that it's finally done you're just like "nvm. it's trash" and go to bed
Even in Arcadia theory
So, as a surprise to absolutely no one who talks to me for more than five minutes, I'm a HUGE Sleep Token fan and obsess over the lore. With the release of Even in Arcadia, there's significantly more to analyze and interpret. Obviously, everything below is just my opinion on certain things and how I interpret them.
First up for discussion is the phrases paired with each side of the divide. "The house must endure" with House Veridian and "The cycle must end" with the Feathered Host. Reasonably, we can assume that House Veridian is representative of Sleep, while the Feathered Host is Vessel (who is represented in visualizers by Jerry the flamingo). It would also be reasonable to assume that the album centers on the House Veridian half of the divide due to the banner burning in every visualizer. However, it's raised the question about the second half of the divide, the Feathered Host, and has people wondering if there will be a new album coming out soon.
When it comes to the album, I have a theory that I haven't seen too many people talking about. I believe that the album is a cycle similar to a time loop. There's a lot of lyrical and rhythmic choices that convinced me of this after originally seeing the theory online (from Glen Joseph Robinson on TikTok), and I'll be discussing some of the bigger ones here.
The first reason I think this is the case is because of the rhythm in the end of "Infinite Baths" and at the beginning of "Look to the Windward." These rhythms are the same, but the different instruments and general sound makes it harder to hear. Both rhythms are in 3/? time (likely 3/4) and go from a quarter note to an eighth note, to an eighth rest, to another quarter note at roughly the same tempo, and even the second instrumental parts that come in shortly after match each other.
Additionally, there are lyrics in both songs that point me to think this as well. In "Infinite Baths," during the breakdown at the end, there's the line "You will drown in and endless sea," and also a direct callback to Look to the Windward with the line "Will you halt this eclipse in me" repeated twice shortly after the "endless sea" line. In "Look to the Windward", the line "Now I know why I woke up here on the shoreline" is emphasized after an instrumental part, being the first line spoken after the instrumental and having a much stronger tone behind it. These lines feel connected both to each other and to Atlantic from "This Place Will Become Your Tomb." To add, at the beginning of "Look to the Windward", there's the line "Losing this war of attrition just as I drift away." Now, "attrition" is a word I didn't know until I heard it in this song, and according to Oxford Languages, the definition is "the action or process of gradually reducing the strength or effectiveness of someone or something through sustained attack or pressure." This definition and the usage of the word in the song points at the conflict between Vessel and Sleep that first reared its head in "Dark Signs" and has been present since then. We can assume that it means that the two are butting heads, with Vessel desperate to escape and Sleep unwilling to release their hold on him, and the never-ending cycle of this album is wearing Vessel down because in the end, he's still mortal.
Another thought I have to back this is the distorted voice we hear in both "Look to the Windward" and "Emergence." Historically, the band has used voice distortion to portray Sleep and what they're saying. In "Look to the Windward," the distorted voice says "You know it isn't over until I say it's over, no more little angels sitting on my shoulder." We can reasonably assume this is Sleep speaking to Vessel, saying this to convey the message that he is at their mercy, and they won't let him escape their grasp so easily, and perhaps even hinting that they're done being "nice" with what they do. (This tidbit also lines up with my theory of Sleep being some sort of primordial death god, but that's a discussion for another time.) Sleep is likely keeping Vessel trapped in this cycle to wear him down, and it seems to be working. Vessel is obviously tired, saying so himself in the line "I've got eyelids heavy enough to break diamonds
We hear the voice of Sleep again in "Emergence," with the repeated line "Go ahead and wrap your arms around me." Based on "Look to the Windward," we can reasonably conclude that those lines are Sleep trying to coerce Vessel into giving up and coming back to them, despite his desire to leave and their cruelty. They know he's tired, and the faster they coerce him back, the faster they don't have to deal with the ordeal anymore.
Obviously, as we see through the album, the House has endured. But what of the Feathered Host? Where's the other half of this divide? Will this second half be another album? The cycle hasn't ended, so more has to be going on, right?
I think the other half of the divide is right in front of us. It's my thoughts that the other half of the divide is the album, just in a different listening order. I think the story of the Feathered Host ending the cycle is told when you start the album with "Even in Arcadia" rather than "Look to the Windward," and loop back to the first six songs after listening to the last six songs, ending with "Caramel" rather than "Infinite Baths." Listening in this order tells an entirely different story, a story of the cycle ending. It tells a story in which the house does not endure, but in which the cycle ends.
Again, this is just my thoughts on it, but I absolutely love the story-crafting being done by this band (and I love how they sampled the Great Fairy Fountain from Majora's Mas for Past Self)
i’m gonna hold your hand with a glove on when i say this
when disabled/chronically ill people tell you they can’t do something, then that is not your cue to tell them that they can actually or that they’ll always find an excuse if they’re looking for one.
when a disabled/chronically ill person says they can’t do something, sometimes that doesn’t mean it’s outside the realm of possibility, sometimes it means if they (attempted to) do that, they will seriously hurt themselves.
when a disabled/chronically ill person says they can’t do something, sometimes it’s preventative care, and they refuse to do that thing to prevent a flare up from happening/their symptoms getting worse in the first place.
disabled/chronically ill people are not “looking for excuses”, they are giving you reasons why. something they don’t even have to do! so maybe just accept the reasons they give you.

look I'm a disability studies scholar so I know why people are like this. but. people really do get so pressed about the dumbest shit. why do you care if someone has multiple people in their head? why do you care if someone is existing with a mobility aid in your line of sight? why do you care if someone takes a couple extra seconds to formulate a sentence? even if you don't believe that someone is legitimately disabled (which is bad on its own. but still). what do you lose by just taking people at face value? and what do you gain by living life as an angry little ass all the time?
i do love that you can name pets pretty much anything. with children you have to be reasonable but with pets you can just do anything. you can name your tortoise panopticon

had a fucking hilarious dream that tumblr replaced the "block" function with the far funnier "glock" function, which did the exact same thing except whenever anyone blocked you a random bullet hole, like a png of a bullet hole, would appear on your blog. discourse blogs were unreadable bc you'd go to the page and the sheer amount of bullet hole pngs stacked over the blogs obscured everything. I woke myself up laughing
A man is driving down the road and breaks down near a monastery. He goes to the monastery, knocks on the door, and says, “My car broke down. Do you think I could stay the night?” The monks graciously accept him, feed him dinner, even fix his car. As the man tries to fall asleep, he hears a strange sound. The next morning, he asks the monks what the sound was, but they say, “We can’t tell you. You’re not a monk.” The man is disappointed but thanks them anyway and goes about his merry way. Some years later, the same man breaks down in front of the same monastery. The monks accept him, feed him, even fix his car. That night, he hears the same strange noise that he had heard years earlier. The next morning, he asks what it is, but the monks reply, “We can’t tell you. You’re not a monk.” The man says, “All right, all right. I’m *dying* to know. If the only way I can find out what that sound was is to become a monk, how do I become a monk?” The monks reply, “You must travel the earth and tell us how many blades of grass there are and the exact number of sand pebbles. When you find these numbers, you will become a monk.” The man sets about his task. Forty-five years later, he returns and knocks on the door of the monastery. He says, “I have traveled the earth and have found what you have asked for. There are 145,236,284,232 blades of grass and 231,281,219,999,129,382 sand pebbles on the earth.” The monks reply, “Congratulations. You are now a monk. We shall now show you the way to the sound.” The monks lead the man to a wooden door, where the head monk says, “The sound is right behind that door.” The man reaches for the knob, but the door is locked. He says, “Real funny. May I have the key?” The monks give him the key, and he opens the door. Behind the wooden door is another door made of stone. The man demands the key to the stone door. The monks give him the key, and he opens it, only to find a door made of ruby. He demands another key from the monks, who provide it. Behind that door is another door, this one made of sapphire. So it went until the man had gone through doors of emerald, silver, topaz, and amethyst. Finally, the monks say, “This is the last key to the last door.” The man is relieved to no end. He unlocks the door, turns the knob, and behind that door he is amazed to find the source of that strange sound. But I can’t tell you what it is because you’re not a monk

BWAHAHAHAHAH.
the way i learned this, it was always told through spoken word. And you’d do the door thing for ages. AGES. literally just making up any old material. ‘behind the foam door is a door made of spinach’ that kind of shit. Go on until whoever is listening has already begged you to stop and has now gone on to pleading, clutching your shirt on their knees pleading. And when you finally said the last line? People went fucking nuts Like there was a good chance of just getting the teeth knocked out of you after telling that joke.
A friend of mine did that shit for 30 minutes on a camp once. The entire fucking bus just exploded in anger when she finished. It was a fucking massacre.
