Peter and John have discussion on linguistics and their relation to the primary emotions. Steve sniffs a marker pen. Sasha sits beneath a blanket. Carlos is being repremended for lateness. For the best part of this afternoon ‘The Libertines’ were resident at Daylight Studios Kentish Town - our first rehearsal, and a chance for everyone to finally see what Sasha’s drumming is like. We went through some songs with quite spectacular groove - Pay the Lady, Breck Road Lover, Lust of the Libertines, The Truth & the Light - and others with a combination of ill-vibes & lack of practice - like You’re My Waterloo. The Domestic is coming on. The studio bloke was smacked up to the eye-balls. Nothing of great import to relate other than that we do seem capable of great things occasionally, and with training and a strong wind behind us, great things will no doubt become daily occurrences.

The Albion is still on course, though the route is annoyingly prone to be more akin to a Sid James Mystery Tour than a plain-sailing maiden voyage. Tension on ship as ever, but more body mass to absorb & ease it. Steve sings. Justin plays bass. Carlos & I stoke the furnace. For now this is the format. A 2-track demo has been cut and the word must now be spread. Instruments are being bought, new songs being written. I would of course not hesitate to describe myself as the ideal frontman for the songs - not least because they are mostly written with the blood of my heart - but I do relish the opportunity of watching Steve perform live from close quarters. I have plenty of stage to myself with the performance poetry malarkey, which is providing a great deal of interest at the moment. Adu, drunk and gloriously shameful at the Foundry, has assured me that I am to host the Sunday night poetry sessions whilst he tours. Last week, I dragged Francesca along to the low-lit wooden Bohemian have bar/workship/gallery as I rattled off a few oldies & played some songs. Wasn’t quite carried shoulder high from the stage but I was pleased with the reception. Friday should prove interesting.
