so in the rooftop scene, sun dodges the first punch on instinct. this is fairly obvious as a nod to his background, previous proximity to violence, etc etc

then he does the smart thing and puts a forearm guard in front of his face. again, this is like, the no 1 thing you can do when someone's taking a swing at you and no surprise that he knows that

then, and this part i find interesting, we get a specific shot of jay gut-punching him.. to no effect. like the punch lands and they both just kinda look at each other. to me, this might be the very moment where jay is like oh? cause he doesn't just fold. now if you have decent abs and are expecting a hit, it can take a lot of power to get through that (see: men always punching each other in the stomach to show off) so again, it makes sense that sun is that fit. and, going by his face, seems to only piss jay off more

in fact, sun doesn't actually go down until he entirely drops his guard and is rewarded by two blows to the face. honestly, this is such a sun moment. you can see his brain going what the hell is up with this psycho?? but i don't think he's actually perceiving him as a real threat

which brings me to my last point – at no point does sun fight back or try to get away. which would, yunno, perhaps be the typical responses. but sun has taken hits much worse than this standing still (e.g. glass bottle to the temple) and i think his threat index is.. complicated. with the type of situations he's used to being in (or those we've seen him in so far), he either has the upper hand and relies primarily on intimidation, or he's very much the underdog and gains nothing from fighting back except more pain (and possibly worse)

i'm not saying he can't fight, i think we've already seen a bit of a flashback proving otherwise. but when he hasn't identified who jay is, aside from some fancy asshole, or why he's hitting him, it's not his first response. and that's probably smart – if he had, say, stabbed jay here, i can only imagine he'd have ended up in a world of trouble
