I've seen people complaining about the Regina x OffOffBroadway!Madeleine (as JA called her) kiss, how it was gross and performative and male gazey. And like...yes? Yes it was, obviously.

Regina is someone who does sex work. She has been hired by this Rich Weirdo who is also an all powerful vampire, in order to pretend to be his dead daughter/sister. I know Louis is gay and has told her as much but I still think it's completely understandable that she would wonder "Okay but is this a sex thing? It has to be a sex thing right??" and as for this other woman who's been hired, what the hell has she been told? "We'll pay you thousands of dollars to come to dinner and cosplay as a character from that popular vampire book that came out a few years ago. And in this I am the main character Louis and you are my sister's girlfriend and we are all having dinner together and catching up and it's definitely not a sex thing"?????

THAT SOUNDS LIKE A VERY ELABORATE KINK. We as the audience know it's not (it is in fact much weirder than that), but of course these women think they are playing out the Rich Weirdo's fantasy. They've been cast as Vampire Girlfriends, so they're going to commit to the role. This Rich Weirdo will probably love watching them make out, maybe he'll even give them a tip.

And of course it makes Louis uncomfortable because THAT'S NOT WHAT THIS IS ABOUT FOR HIM, but it is very much also supposed to make the AUDIENCE uncomfortable. It is meant to highlight that Louis is doing a Weird Fucked Up Exploitative Thing.
