Batman/Wonder Woman - Weight Of The Battle

SUPERMAN: Diana?

BATMAN: She took the most from Mongul.

WONDER WOMAN: Let me guess. I’m not fine.

BATMAN: Very much.

WONDER WOMAN: But I can heal fast.

BATMAN: I know.

This piece directly interprets the aftermath of the Justice League Unlimited episode "For The Man Who Has Everything." After a brutal confrontation with Mongul (who, in my headcanon, was beheaded by Draaga of Warworld to the Trinity's dismay (yes, the Black Mercy was abducted)), the Trinity picks up the pieces on an emotional and physical level.

However, Wonder Woman is severely wounded. Her ribs cracked and bruises all over her body. Batman steps into a protective role and carries her back to the Invisible Jet and travel back to the Watchtower II to be taken care of. Behind them, Superman watches his allies depart as he reflects on the toll of the Black Mercy and the life he had to leave behind.

This becomes a turning point in Bruce and Diana's relationship in some ways since it shows that Bruce is committing to the well-being of a respected colleague he cared for beneath the cowl. Although, like Superman, Batman will soon have to reflect on the Black Mercy's affects on himself and see his true heart's desire.

Superman was created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. Bruce Wayne was created by Bill Finger and Bob Kane. Diana Prince was created by William Moulton Marston. Inspired by Bruce Timm's DCAU art style.

I always think fake dating! au are so unrealistic because who seriously has time and energy for all of that nonsense? But then I thought of Bruce, who spends a considerable amount of time playing a character, who would benefit from a fake dating! au. Namely, when people are starting to notice how each time the Justice League must save the world in another country, Bruce Wayne just happens to be around that place. And while his usual alibi is ‘I partly fund the team’ that line doesn’t change public perception anymore. That is until Diana suggests that, given her role as an art curator, they should pretend like they’re in a relationship and his trips overseas are to visit her while she’s working. No one expected Bruce to welcome the idea, let alone embrace it. Although Clark insists it’s ‘unethical’ and could ‘jeopardise the team dynamics,’ Bruce and Diana are sitting a little too close and are being a little too invested in their very logical idea to listen to Clark’s concerns.
