I want everyone to know this

Anthony Russo detailed on Reddit that Captain America “always could” pick up Mjolnir, and realized that in Age of Ultron. The reason why he didn’t go through with lifting the hammer upon that revelation was because he wanted to spare Thor any embarrassment.

As Anthony explained, “Our interpretation of the famous scene in Ultron was that when he realized he could pick up Mjolnir he quickly chose not to, because he didn’t want to embarrass Thor.”

Steve was always able to lift Mjolnir✨

Me and plenty of other people have assumed that of this scene already; Steve could lift it. The hammer moved in his grip, and you immediately see him adjusting and stopping his pull. His fingers slide but then stop. There is no way Steve didn’t feel the hammer move, he’s focused and he has enhanced senses. He knew the hammer moved, and he stopped right away. 

Also, look at this:

This looks like the face of a dad who pretended to lose an arm wrestle match with his child. The smile, the raised arms, the attitude like “Whelp sport, couldn’t win from you there :))”

Age of Ultron did some wrong things with Steve’s character, but they also did things right. Not just the vision Wanda gave him, or his twitchy behavior around “home”, but this too, helping his friend out and holding back. 

Thor’s drunk, he’s in a mood to boast a little and challenge his friends, he bet Asgard’s throne on this. Steve knows if he lifts it now it’ll just be embarrassing for everyone, so he puts up a nice little act and makes a funny little joke out of it to keep everything light and nice.

But of course just being worthy wasn’t enough, the absolute QUEEN ran head first into battle, Mjolnir in hand, flashing lightning and hurling his half-broken shield, and then he went ahead and casually lifted and used Stormbreaker. 

He actually summoned the ax to his hand and used it. 

Mind you, that though Stormbreaker doesn’t have a spell that keeps the unworthy from lifting her, that doesn’t mean just anyone can pick her up. In Infinity War, we were told:

Eitri: A king’s weapon. Meant to be the greatest in Asgard. In theory, it could even summon the Bifrost.

And earlier in a conversation with Thor and the Guardians:

Star-Lord: Don’t you think that we should all have a weapon like that?

Thor: No. You simply lack the strength to wield them. Your bodies would crumble as your minds collapsed into madness.

And yet, Steve used it in battle without a problem. 

So anyway, Steve Rogers is worthy, and he has the physical and mental strength to wield Stormbreaker in battle.

summary:  Stephen is left to raise his toddler daughter on his own, after the untimely loss of her mother

Stephen had done his best to give Selena a happy birthday, despite the grief that had become his constant companion.  She had insisted on helping him prepare the pancakes which had become part of their family birthday tradition, grinning as she poured far too many chocolate chips into the batter while she chattered excitedly about their planned day trip to the zoo.  His bright-eyed fairy child–small for her age but bursting with energy, brimming over with enthusiasm for each new experience, for each new lesson that her parents had provided her, magical or otherwise—had been a pretty picture that morning, her face, hands and nightgown dusted with flour, so that he’d had to work a quick, easy charm to get her (and the kitchen) properly tidied up. 

After the zoo, they had a little picnic at the Bleecker Street Park and she had played on the swings and jungle gym long enough to tire her out for an afternoon nap—and when she awoke she had told him that she’d dreamt of her mama and the last trip they’d taken to Hadeeth, when the three of them had walked through the fields of beautiful flowers her mother had loved (those were Teyla’s cherished talat akeylum, Stephen had realized painfully, as a fresh bolt of sorrow pierced his heart).  Selena had looked to him earnestly, asking him when they could visit those fields again, and he’d had to fight against his voice breaking as he reminded her that the way to Hadeeth was barred to them for now, but he would take her there someday as soon as it became possible.  If ever, he had sighed to himself, though he wouldn’t say it aloud; Selena was far too young, and too filled with her mother’s sweetness and eternal optimism, to have such hopes permanently dampened.

Stephen pulled off his reading glasses and squeezed his eyes shut, then pinched the bridge of his nose before lightly massaging them. His eyes strained so much more easily these days, and it wasn’t just the size of the text on the ancient scroll he’d been studying that had done it this time. Getting old, as they say, could be a real bitch.

A dark-haired young woman, clad in the currant colored robes of an Adept, entered his study without so much as rapping on the doorframe or even announcing herself to him with the accustomed deference of her rank. He watched her cross to his favorite, old, leather wingback chair, dropping in to it, and then draped both legs over one of the arms. Once comfy, she pulled an apple from her pocket and took a crisp, juicy bite.

“Selena,” he asked quietly, settling his reading glasses back in place, preparing to tackle the Sanskrit text again, “Did you at least bring one for me?

They chatted as they walked, discussing ordinary things, feeling each other out for those initial signs of compatibility.  The trip took them downtown to Bleecker Street, enroute to West Houston Street and their dinner destination.  Stephen had subtly managed to have them tread the sidewalk opposite the Sanctum, rather than the sidewalk bordering it—and was very surprised when Hope slowed their pace, and then stopped directly across from the double doors of his home and refuge.

“I’ve always loved this old building,” she sighed, “It’s got a dignity–a sort of stateliness—that’s very…reassuring; like it’s stood the test of time.  Like it could weather any storm.”  She pointed towards the Sanctum window.  “That oculus alone is…spectacular…while the beautiful green patina of the copper roofing gives it amazing character,” she enthused, “And it incorporates several architectural styles seamlessly—Art Deco, Bauhaus, Regency. It’s a true marvel, even in a city of marvelous buildings.”  Hope gave a low whistle, adding, “I’ll bet it’s got some gorgeous architectural details inside, too”      

Despite the thrill of delight he felt learning that Hope had the artistic vision—and perhaps even a touch enough of the Sight—to recognize the beauty and other-worldly purpose infused in the bricks and mortar of his mystical domain, Stephen tempered his reply carefully.  “Yeah…it is something, alright.”  And then, trusting his instinct, he revealed, “And, uh…well…I actually work here…”

Her mouth dropped open and she blinked several times, “Seriously?  This…this building is a school?”

“Ahhh…among other things,” he admitted.

“Stephen, I’d love to take a peek inside sometime,” she exclaimed, “Maybe bring my sketch pad along.  Is it open to the public?”

“Rarely, Hope.  The nature of the work we do here…it, uh…it precludes…interaction with the general public.”

“Well now I’m really intrigued.”  She looked equal to any challenge he might muster, but chose a softer route, batting her lashes prettily, “So…how about a private tour? I promise I won’t tell a soul.”

Stephen sighed hard–finding her charm persuasive–yet unable to acquiesce, “Let’s say we skip the tour for the time being?  It can be a real maze inside…and I can think of much better ways to spend our time together.”

 “Hmmmm.” Hope raised her chin pertly, “Alright—for now.  But don’t think I won’t ask you again…sooner than later.”

 He chuckled and patted her hand in the crook of his arm, “Of that, Ms. Collins, I have no doubt.”
