the number 1 rule of fanfic is have fun and be yourself. the number 2 rule is the average healthy adult male can lose roughly 2 liters of blood before dying.
i read an anecdote ages and ages ago from a gay person who grew up with gay parents, and struggled to find any kind of belonging in the gay community because everyone else there was bonding over having homophobic parents. everyone else was defining themselves by their suffering and oppression rather than by their sexuality, leaving this gay person to feel like they weren't really gay because they didn't have the right experiences. they wondered whether more gay people would feel this way as more children grew up with gay parents, if the gay community would leave them behind for not having suffered enough. i think about that anecdote a lot.
a lot of the current rhetoric around gender reminds me of that anecdote. a lot of people are willing to go "transgender people are oppressed for their gender presentation, therefore if you're not oppressed for your gender presentation, you're not trans." but i don't think we should be defining ourselves by our suffering and oppression. what will we do, in a few years, in a few decades, as there start to be, say, adults who were supported in their transition as children? what will we do when a stereotypical trans person can genuinely say they didn't suffer hardship for being trans?
i'm afraid i know the answer. i'm afraid that people are going to close ranks as they've already started closing ranks against intersex people, against nonbinary people, against double binary people, against closeted people. as some people have started closing ranks against people who transitioned in the opposite direction from them. as many people have closed ranks against people with edge case gender experiences. "i don't consider you to be oppressed, therefore you are not welcome to share in this community you might otherwise belong in."
i wish people would understand that we shouldn't do this. i wish people would understand that we benefit from a broader, more inclusive community more than we benefit from whatever purity testing oppression olympics it is that i keep running into.

ANYWAYS!!! Ramble time!!!! personally see the third tiers and the first tiers as inverse of each other in that the first tiers are close to human in spirit and mind while the third tiers are closer to embodying the elements they represent. Boboiboy is a host or conduit in which the absolute of each element manifests, which is understandably overwhelming since you're shoving concepts of the natural world into a limited, human coil.
As crazy Boboiboy Beliung is, there's something romantic about being loved by someone as close to the winds themselves, something romantic about an alien learning to love the earth through earth's hero and someone who wields and encapsulates its very elements...

Why does duri act so different in hod???
Duri in hod lost his passion for almost everything he used to adore in OG, like football _I'm not calling it soccer IT'S A BALL YOU PLAY WITH YOUR FOOT WHY DO SOME PEPPLE CALL IT SOCCER AND RTEN CALL SOEM BALL GAME TOJ PLAY WITH UR HANDS "FOOTBALL"!!???!_
In addition to this, Duri also became extremely... muted idk?? He’s so washed out, which is not like our original bright, loud, overconfident Duri at all!
My (extremely overexaggerating) theory is that he developed some kind of minor depression which changed his personality.
Why do I say this is a potential explanation for the change in his character?
Because, afaik, when someone has lived a life full of adrenaline rushes and high-energy and fast-paced actions, and their source of constant adrenaline suddenly stops, it is possible they could develop depression.
We could kind of fit Duri into this scenario. In the OG, he was constantly in danger and in high-energy environments due to tobot hero stuff, much like all the other kids.
He was also rather dependent on having the tobots and action as part of his daily motivation, which we could see in how he often got easily bored if he didn’t get to bring Y out for missions for too long.
So, it kind of makes sense that having the tobot action stop entirely (as it's implied/canon?? that in the gap between og and hod, no villains ever showed up and that’s why they were surprised when villains showed up again in hod) would hit Duri the most
The loss of that primary source of adrenaline would probably bring him down a lot, which would explain why he is so washed out and not as vibrant as he used to be in og
And iirc, depression could permanently alter one's personality even after they have healed from it
Even though Duri got that high-energy lifestyle back by having villains to fight again, he's still extremely different from his past self and might not regain his passion for a lot of things he used to love for a while
This would also make sense to explain why he barely seemed to care whenever Semo got hurt or got close to a mental breakdown throughout hod. Depression can affect someone’s sympathy, empathy, and compassion levels.
I am reading way too deep into this but I need something to excuse HoD's weirdass characteration. Characterize? Characterization?

Somethinf to be said about them flattening Hana to "soft smart guy" and whatever the fuck they did to my beloved carcrash duo (limosemo), but I found duri’s change more interesting and I needed to make up an explanation for it. It lets people access scientific articles for free. This is dangerous. It helps the free flow of knowledge and reduces the competitive edge of all the people who worked really hard to have been born into a wealth.
Like, it’s literally a website where you can type in the DOI of an article and read it, without ever having to pay the publisher who exploited the author.
So, again, do not, under any circumstance, use Sci-Hub. I mean, can you imagine a world where knowledge is free and easily accessible to everyone? Even, y'know, poor people?
Libgen also has many books online, including textbooks, searchable by name, author, and ISBN. Can you imagine textbook companies not getting their hard-earned income from poor college students? Here is the link just so you make sure that you never accidentally stumble across this horrible, unethical website.
Oh, and while we’re talking about books, if you’ve managed to stay clear from Libgen, definitely don’t go to zlibrary, where you can also find a lot of textbooks, but unfortunately they’re completely free.
Another inside tip from academia: Those papers in really expensive journals that are effectively inaccessible to anyone not in a university network? Depending on the discipline it’s very likely that same paper is on a “preprint” server somewhere, with no access restrictions.
Like if you want to read basically any physics, math, or CS paper, arXiv.org will have you covered, because everyone uploads their papers there before submitting to a journal (and generally updates it after peer review). I know all of my papers are on there. This is such common practice that journals have it baked into their licensing agreements that authors retain the right to upload their work to these places.
So the next time you get hit with that paywall, you may not even need sci-hub, just click the arxiv link on google scholar instead.
if for some reason none of this works, the old “send a email nicely asking for the paper to the author” is always a good trick. remember most scientists hate the commercialisation of scientific knowledge
Many authors of papers are on ResearchGate! You can ask for papers there, if they don’t just post a copy to download. If they’re associated with a college, you can usually find their email addresses in the department directory, also.
