The more I examine how different HoD’s characters are from their OG selves, the angrier I get

the guy who has straight up lived with him and his brother, who has forgiven his mistakes over and over again, who has basically been like another brother to him, and who has moved and became their neighbor again no matter how many times they moved,
struggling and yelling, cursing out his tobot, all in all just being obviously extremely unstable and insecure and confused as fuck,
and his response when said bestfriend stormed off would be “Okay, good talk, see you later”?

I think Semo’s headphones could be seen as a metaphor/symbolism for his general caution.
We see him have his headphones on almost 24/7 in OG, especially in early seasons.
Be it when he was being treated badly or it was just a casual situation, he almost always keeps his guard up. And he almost never takes off his headphones.

This scene in s03. This is I think the first time we see Semo without his headphones.
This part of the arc/episode has him so utterly vulnerable (he just found out it was all a lie and got chased down by the bikerbots), disappointed in himself, and apologetic, so he’s not all that cautious.
He has no choice but to let his walls fall for a moment as he apologizes before running off to rescue Z from Diluk.

And then this scene—or just s16 in general—which started this entire idea.
This arc has the kids essentially hypnotized, hooking them onto the games until they can’t let go.
Notice how the majority of this arc specifically has Semo without his headphones—because he’s let all his caution go due to the game taking over his entire mind.
And then, at the end, he finally puts his headphones back on when him and the other kids realize what’s happening and snap out of it for real.

And then..... HoD
Some parts of HoD s1p1 has him wearing headphones, even if not the same ones as in OG and not as consistently.
Mostly when he was worried sick about Z, overthinking things, and confused/suspicious of Z’s weird behavior.
But past that point, he doesn’t wear it anymore (I’m pretty sure he actually just never has them past this point until that one trailer?).
And, coincidentally, I noticed Semo wasn’t nearly as observant in HoD as he was in OG—evident in how:
he didn’t sniff out Hansu and Z’s little connection sooner despite living with them
and
how he didn’t figure out “Maggie” was actually an android copy until she actually got actually exposed.
Despite him managing to figure out Sora was related to Acnee and Angela was the one who set his dad up even though Limo never told him her name iirc. And both of those cases, he knew just by looking at tiny clues.

Now, ofc, there are probs some scenes that disprove this theory. It’s fine, just my headcanon.
I find it interesting how, despite consistently being one of if not the most “modest”/covered up in his outfits compared to the others, Semo is still arguably the character most sexualized by the fandom out of the entire cast.
I actually wonder, what’s the explanation behind that? Is it simply because he’s meant to be/shown as the “attractive” one in the series and the fandom just took that and ran with it?

Duri separating the snacks piece by piece before the POV shifts to showing Semo on the couch beside him, holding a book, genuinely seeming confused.
Semo: “...What are you doing?”
Duri: “I’m bored, so I was counting the snacks, but you distracted me. Now I have to start over.”
Semo: “Hey, if you’re that bored, then go study.”
Duri: “Study? Oh~ that’s fresh.”
First of all I honestly just love how Semo is just like, a permanent guest at the Cha household no matter how many times they all move.
Second of all. If these kids were any older I’m pretty sure you could easily convince me Duri was completely fried during this entire scene. He was NOT rooted in reality in that moment.
“Studying sounds like a good idea!” Who tf are you and what did you do to Duri </3
Lastly. I swear Semo has so many scenes of him holding/reading a book when they don’t have anything to do. He’s such a nerd. And also he’s so pretty when he sits with his knees brought up like that.
Ik it’s not that deep. It’s just that at least in my opinion, that’s genuinely the most romantic shit I’ve ever seen between two same-gender characters in a kids show that aren’t in a canon romantic relationship.
