So I’ll say it again: it is okay if you come to tumblr to escape upsetting news. It is okay if you’re just here for fun and fandom. It is okay if you do not want to use your tumblr as a place to read about or spread the current events that are circulating. It is okay if you need a place to decompress and just relax. There are other ways to be involved in/support causes and you are allowed to set boundaries on social media platforms without it being indicative of your belief systems.

If a democrat doesn’t want to see small children be gunned down in their schools, she will try to vote for stricter gun laws that aim to prevent violent people from getting a hold of them, as it has been proven that age restrictions, universal background checks,  safe storage campaigns, and red flag laws have all been able to reduce violent crime regarding firearms.  If a republican doesn’t want to see small children be gunned down in their schools, she insists that it would be better for armed police to monitor schools, and to arm teachers and staff, despite the fact that the presence of police in schools has only lead to more violence against children in schools, and the presence of armed officers does not deter or prevent school shootings. And furthermore, adding more bullets to an equation does not actually stop people from getting hurt, it makes friendly fire much more likely. 

If a democrat watches a tv show with an underrepresented demographic, she will praise it for its representation. If a republican watches a tv show how with a certain demographic about it, she will rally to have it cancelled because “pc culture” and “forced diversity” are forcing her to watch things about people that don’t look like her. 

If a democrat is told about white/cis/het/male/able-bodied privilege, she will do research to understand what this means.  If a republican is told about  white/cis/het/male/able-bodied privilege, she will have a meltdown denying that it exists without actually understanding what it means. 

If a democrat is told that her children are being taught about slavery and indigenous genocide in school, she will be happy that her children are learning.  If a republican is told that her children are being taught about slavery and indigenous genocide in school, she will throw a temper tantrum and try to get it banned in school because she doesn’t want to acknowledge the history of her country and ancestors or learn how the systems put in place in the past effect how society is run in the present. 

If a democrat doesn’t like fur, she won’t wear it.  If a republican doesn’t like fur, she will try to get it banned for everyone and attack people who wear it, even if it’s fake. 

If a democrat is in the bathroom with a trans person, she will use the bathroom and wash her hands and leave them alone like a normal person.  If a republican is in the bathroom with a trans person, she will demand to see their genitals and harass them and not wash her hands. 

If a democrat doesn’t like a politician, she will vote against them.  If a republican doesn’t like a politician, she will claim that they cheated despite all proof and evidence leading to the contrary. 

If a democrat is told happy holidays, she responds happy holidays.  If a republican is told happy holidays, she has a meltdown and insists there’s a war on Christmas despite the fact that there are numerous other holidays in December.

If a democrat doesn’t want to use universal healthcare, she won’t go to the doctor.  If a republican doesn’t want to use universal healthcare, she makes sure that nobody else can either. 

If a democrat sees someone kneeling during the anthem or sitting during the pledge, she will respect their right to do so, which is protected under the US constitution.  If a republican sees someone kneeling during the anthem or sitting during the pledge, she will throw a fit and insist that the person deserves violence against them because singing a song and reciting the pledge is more important than justice. 

If a democrat sees an injustice, she will vote and act in ways to right the wrongs.  If a republican sees an injustice, she will jump through hoops to convince everyone that the person deserved it. 

If a democrat can’t get a job, she will keep applying to other places until she does. 

if a republican can’t get a job, she will blame immigrants for existing and believe that they are stealing the jobs from her.

If a democrat sees someone with they/them pronouns, they use them.  If a republican sees someone with they/them pronouns, she will have a meltdown about grammar and refuse to use them, even though singular they/them pronouns have been used since the 1300s and are older than the singular you, which came into use in the 1600s. 

If a democrat doesn’t know something, she will google it.  If a republican doesn’t know something, she will make something up and decide that that is factual. 

If a democrat sees a homeless veteran, she will offer food or money and then vote for people and laws to further help them as a whole.  If a republican sees a homeless veteran, she will spit at them for asking for money and report them to the police for panhandling, and then actively vote for politicians who take away money and protections for veterans while using them as a weapon against people’s right to protest the pledge or national anthem. 

If a democrat sees an unjust law, she will rally against it because she believes that laws should be dictated by the peoples’ morals.  If a republican sees an unjust law, no she won’t because her morals are dictated by laws.

A democrat believes that there should be a separation of church and state because many different religions exist in this country.  A republican believes that Christianity should be in charge of everything because they believe that everyone else is wrong and they’re right (because they said so.)

A democrat sees somebody minding their own business and will leave them alone.  A republican sees somebody minding their own business and try to convert them to their cult church.
