i love queerplatonic relationships where one of them is aroace and the other isn't. i love when the allo character has a crush that fades over time. i love when they don't care what they are to each other as long as they're together. i love when romance is an option that they don't choose. i love when both aros and allos feel fulfilled without romance or sex.
tmi doesn't exist to me. I love information
Heated Rivalry is already a romance AND a workplace drama. Expecting it to also be a commentary on toxic sports culture is like asking Greyโs Anatomy to be a commentary on the flaws of the healthcare system in the US.
Like yeah, it can make the occasional remark, but thatโs not what itโs about.
To be clear Iโm not saying we donโt need commentary on toxic sports culture.
But I am saying that I donโt think the romance we got with Shane & Ilya could possibly exist within a book that was actually designed to be commentary about toxic sports culture, because then they would have to be subject to the realities of of that world, and that just isnโt compatible with the genre.
Could Rachel have done more to address the problems in sports? Yes.
Could she have written a realistic story that accurately reflected the environment that is the modern NHL & still given us lovable characters & a happy ending? No.
Gonna take some inspiration from @raincitygirl76 and reblog my favorite tags on these posts as I get them.
Hereโs a great point from @shanehollandertwentyfour
And another form @sweetladyjustice
And from @hollanova
Justโฆ yes. Exactly. To all the above.
Look, I think itโs perfectly valid to point out what you feel is โmissingโ or different from the real world, and even seek out other works or create your own works that address the things you feel these stories lack.
But before we jump to all the things the stories did โwrongโ I think itโs important to understand what the standards are for stories like these in the first place.
From @sweetladyjustice again, yes, this exactly. And not even just that readers should be able to infer things, but also that for the genre, itโs necessary that readers infer things rather than have it all explicitly laid out in order for the story to work & maintain a certain expected tone.
All of this from @livesbetweenpages
Thereโs cuteness aggression, but what do I call the experience of witnessing something so beautiful that I immediately just want to lick it?

shane (a little tipsy) being cornered by a few fans at a bar one night and they ask him whatโs the best thing about coming out, expecting him to say something motivating like self-expression and liberation and shane just goes

Being an adult will have you unironically craving a vegetable
Being an adult will have you unironically sad about a parasite outbreak in fresh vegetables.
Judith Butler, philosopher: โIf you sacrifice a minority like trans people, you are operating within a fascist logicโ
Feels like a good time to remind certain people that this is coming from Judith Butler, who is not just a leading feminist philosopher, but also THE COFOUNDER OF QUEER THEORY
The literal cofounder of queer theory as an academic field says that abandoning trans people is fascist logic.
The voices in our community trying to exclude us may be loud, but they are not right, and they do not speak for the community as a whole or our history or anything at all.
Trans people belong here. We always have, and we always will.

This is the 85 year old creator of Roger Rabbit:
My hottest fanfiction take is I think people should stop posting multi-fandom oneshots as a single fic with like 50+ chapters and instead post them as individual fics
can we all please just assume by default that no artist is okay with having their art reposted unless they state otherwise instead of the other way around
reposting: saving an image to your computer and uploading it as a new post
reblogging: clicking the reblog button to add it to your blog
we love it if you reblog our work; we really hate it if you repost it

Iโve been rewatching Gentleman Jack & I have such different opinions about it the second time around, but I still love it so so much
Rolex invites Shane to the Royal Box at Wimbledon again and this time Shane accepts because Rolex specifically asked if he could bring his husband as well and fuck yes he can and together Ilya and Shane are ready to serve so much cunt. They both get dressed in some sharp, elevated summer suits, Ilya in Versace and Shane in Gucci, the dramatic sunglasses & the bitchiest, judgiest mogging are ON, they mirror each other as they cross their legs; occasionally they're holding hands or sit with Ilya's arm around Shanes waist, they are the epitome of power husbands & this is their playground. Do they have one clue what is going on on the court? Of course not. That doesn't stop them from having a fabulous time showing off each other. They know they steal the limelight looking as devastating as they do, together. Turns out these dreadful PR appointments are actually incredible fun when you have your husband/best friend/soulmate with you and Shane can't imagine how he ever did this without Ilya.
Now picture this, occasionally they whisper into each other's ears, sometimes its just sweet nothings and sometimes it's some devastating chirps about tennis, and each time a precious smile breaks through, only for each other, but it drives the photographers wild.
(afterwards, Ilya is excited to have the perfect summer with Shane where they fuck their way across europe)
