Kid was living on the rails cause he chooses to Goes to jail, comes back with juice, crews enthused Who knew the bruise would heal so quick? Who knew the passion would become fashion And get you fastened onto his dick? You might as well have let him penetrate The situation shook me, looking at rookies that try to emulate One sets the standard, the weak randomly follow Space ain’t shit, some kid’ll take your place tomorrow The cycle never stops cause you can’t recycle styrofoam I still see Andre nowadays, he fucks with microphones [Spawn] Man, they lied, it ain’t how you die, it’s how you breathe It ain’t what you take, it’s what you leave and conceive What you got is nothing if your soul don’t represent it Present it, it ain’t where you’re from, it’s where you been, kid [Slug] They lied, it ain’t how you die, it’s how you breathe It ain’t what you take, it’s what you leave and conceive What you got is nothing if your soul don’t represent it Present it, it ain’t where you’re from, it’s where you been, kid What you got ain’t nothing if your soul don’t represent it Present it, it ain’t where you’re from, it’s where you been, kid What you got is nothing if your soul don’t represent it Present it, it ain’t where you’re from, it’s where you been, kid [Spawn] They lied, it ain’t how you die, it’s how you breathe It ain’t what you take, it’s what you leave and conceive What you got is nothing if your soul don’t represent it Present it, it ain’t where you’re from, it’s where you been, kid [Slug] But the sun will come out tomorrow And you can bet your bottom dollar that tomorrow There’ll be someone that’s harder than me and smarter than me And stronger than me and lasts longer than me So check my fate, wide awake but feels like I’m sleeping Trife life can’t catch a wife that’s really worth my keeping It’s deeper, I peep it, I seem to need to understand How am I gonna explain to my seed I was the man? [Spawn] Wirth Park killings, suicide in crystal court buildings Young villains holding guns without feelings Dealing crumbs of demons to those fiending Lost in dreams when the pressure hit I mean the fan hit the shit but when the shit hit the fan that was it Flipped out, you tripped out, you couldn’t handle it Addicted to life dismantlement ? from distortion to brain abortion forcing to perish Life’s to cherish, the moments too little The path is brittle for those who chose to walk hard In regards to those who front, stunts get elderly Propelling me to disappointment, could’ve been avoided By egos posing lethal with weapons Deceptions are ill, revolve around intentions to kill Gots to chill on that level or end up with the Devil Digging your grave somewhere in the middle [Slug] It’s no riddle, they lied It ain’t how you die, it’s how you breathe It ain’t what you take, it’s what you leave and conceive What you got is nothing if your soul don’t represent it Present it, it ain’t where you’re from, it’s where you been, kid [Spawn] They lie, it ain’t how you die, it’s how you breathe It ain’t what you take, it’s what you leave and conceive What you got is nothing if your soul don’t represent it Present it, it ain’t where you’re from, it’s where you been, kid [Slug] What you got is nothing if your soul don’t represent it Present it, it ain’t where you’re from, it’s where you been, kid What you got is nothing if your soul don’t represent it Present it
Re: water observing water; Lucy’s first acid trip
There was nothing ever
so fiercely true and un-true, and vivid and lyrical,
and querisome, and ponderous; so sane -- about
questioning
questions, and
questioning authority, and especially --
questioning my own sanity.
And after the ecstasy, the laundry.
Ceaseless piles of molten rock,
and the “dangers” of becoming unhinged;
precariously dangling quite right in the light-of-day
Childllike, and boyish.
Relentlessly unapologetic; fiercely fast, onto
either this time my stomach wretches,
or the next;
It’s all the same, and shamelessly discussing the ongoings of late, with cigarettes and coffee and the aimless mind -- We thank You.
For everything mad,
you have ever walked upon;
and everything you have ever touched:
Thank You.

There's a voice that pulls me stumbling through a symphony
And the less of it I need, the more I get
Till I'm swept up by the shape of all the centuries
Like an echo in the chambers of my chest
I think she fears I'll be a servant to my history
Or worse, a slave to someone else's misplaced doubts
So I try too hard to kill what's out to kill me
Till I'm blind and hiding in the lion's mouth
And the words she aches to hear pour through my canyon
And they're singing in the caverns of my limbs
And though I do my best to try to understand them
They only follow me like vultures in the end
I once read that I should write something worth reading
Or I should do something worth writing about
As my ears they buzz like bees upon the ceiling
I start to pour a little more than I'm allowed
I said our hearts know deeper seasons than our memories
She said, "This harvest might sustain us for a year
And of all the thousand ways the world could tempt me
I've never met a better fighter than her fear
So as I try to breathe the air that she is breathing
And we dance a lightless dance upon my floor
I am burning to tell her she's all I'm needing
But I'm drowned out by all the noise outside the door
Carried by the current of the morning
Miles below the surface of the dawn
This is not the place that I was born in
But it doesn't mean it's not the place where I belong
Nobody’s nothing, after all.
Crane Your Neck - Lady Lamb
I pressed my ear against your back not even a week after we met And I felt your heartbeat fall like raindrops in a bucket I used to have a pretty nice spine but I neglected to give it a name So each time I tried to straighten it, I couldn't get its attention And I placed my palm upon your collarbone And I wished to fall asleep deep in your marrow As gently as a mouse curled up in a ball As gently as a mouse until tomorrowWe ripped off all our clothes and this included all our jewelry And we ran hand in hand back when you brought out the beast in me The parts that are dormant, I wish to set them free And in the clarity of this night I make myself believe I can sleep easily alone But there's a hunger under my skin and its gripping at my bones There's a hunger like a lion's and it's ripping right through my bones So I push my limbs all forward like a tree does in a storm And I walk across the kitchen and I lean against the window I'm as calm as a baby lamb that is being led I'm as blue as blood before the blood goes red And how it hurts even in the sun It's a goddamn joke how we can hurt even in the sun For a heart beats the best in a bed beside the one that it loves Yes, a heart beats the best when in a head, death becomes irrelevant Cause if you're dreaming about dying, then you're not really living darling You've gotta be starving, you've gotta be starving for it And if you're crying by the moon, in the sun you better lift up that chin Twist your hips And crane your neck Twist your hips And bend your body back You've gotta be starving, you've gotta be starving for it You've gotta be starving, you've gotta be starving for it

Retreat Syndrome
Camille Rose Garcia, 2002
In Camille Rose Garcia’s book Tragic Kingdom, she cites a story by Philip K. Dick called “Retreat Syndrome,” in which the main character undergoes trauma and creates his own delusional parallel reality as a coping mechanism. When he realizes the state of his glass house, so to speak... the floor shatters.
This particular piece results largely due to 9/11; many people in the United States had turned to prescription drugs to cope with the stress and uncertainty of the world.
Speaks to our current world reality. It’s been hard to hold.
