funny how the mediterranean's been burning every summer for at least 5 years and nobody gives a shit but northern europe gets hot for a week and suddenly we all care about climate change

and i get what you all mean when you say "but those countries are used to hot weather" because yes, true. but i really need everyone to understand that 35+ degrees for months on end isn't normal – not even in south italy/spain or greece or north africa. fires every day isn't normal. the glaciers disappearing from the alps isn't normal. the rate at which the temperature of the mediterranean is rising isn't normal. the prolonged drought isn't normal. we are better equipped to deal with heat, that's true, but heat this extreme isn't normal here either and people and animals die here too and crops and vegetation are destroyed and it's been going on for years and it keeps getting worse.
