Jason already had it!

He knew stealing tires was wrong, he knew he was committing a crime, but he knew it was the only way to survive given his circumstances!

He runs away from Ma Gunn's school because she was teaching them how to be criminals! He didn't want to become a professional thief, he just needed enough money for necessities.

And goes after them when they try to steal jewels from the museum! He didn't know if Batman was gonna come and he didn't care, he knew what they were doing is wrong, so he wanted to stop them! Jason didn't think Batman believed him, but he believed in himself enough to sneak into the museum and try to stop Ma Gunn.

So this idea of Jason 'being born a criminal' and how him turning into a crime lord being inevitable is clearly incorrect. Even after this issue - his first Pre-Crisis appearance btw - there are multiple times where Jason has shown his ability to tell the difference between right and wrong.

It's very weird that you think Jason is incapable of understanding morality just because he was born in Crime Alley. It's weird that you think that he was some heathen who committed crimes for fun and not for survival. It's weird that you think that him committing a crime makes him a complete immoral being. It's weird that you think a rich man 'saved' him by teaching him the error of his ways when he was already conscious of it. It's weird that you think that because he was born to a father who turned to enforcing to make money for his family and a mother who developed a drug addiction, he was destined to be a criminal, that all of his choices are indicative of this ontological evil that grows inside of him.

I really feel sorry for Di Nicuolo and Higgins. They've worked so hard to try and bring us what sounds like a really fun story with incredible art, and rabid Jason antis have to be disgusting about it.

I don't give a fuck if you think your fave has been 'slandered' by this book that hasn't even come out yet that you won't even read because you can't read enough to realise the entire basis of the disgusting 'jokes' that aren't fucking jokes is incorrect and assuming a lot from a statement in a solicit that you've misread entirely.

I don't give a fuck if you have this weird-ass hate boner for Jason Todd.

Stop being weird about characters interacting with other characters.

I hope the creators turn their phones off on the 2nd of September, because I guarantee this book is going to be flooded with hate from the get go, and the chances of them being harassed seem pretty likely given the abhorrent behaviour of these so-called 'fans'.

- you should read jason’s robin stories. especially moench’s work.

- jason todd’s narrative does imply that he is a csa victim (bruce’s will recording in battle for the cowl, jason’s dialogue to mia in “seeing red”). it also explicitly includes him having deeply emotional reactions to sexual violence and violence against women (“dumpster slasher” and “diplomat’s son”).

- jason todd’s overarching narrative arc includes heavy themes of victimization and (institutional and interpersonal) violence. i have also read interesting metas about reader interpretations of jason’s stories as an allegory for an inadequate response to sexual assault.* due to all these factors, it is no wonder that readers who have been impacted by these real world themes identify with him.

- obviously jason todd is not the only character who contains these themes and events. please ask me about dinah lance and my various watsonian and doylist interpretations of the fallout of longbow hunters. but not here, because this is a jason todd post. and multiple characters can explore themes of victimhood. in multiple different ways. and you are doing a disservice to characters like mia and tara by saying “jason fans are making this up about him. read mia/tara instead” BECAUSE THESE ARE VASTLY DIFFERENT CHARACTERS AND STORIES WITH DIFFERENT CONTEXTS, EVEN IF THEY SHARE THEMES.

- you do not have to base your reader interpretation of jason as heavily on these themes as many of his fans do. but that does not mean these reader interpretations are unfounded. neither are yours.

- jason todd has been an antagonist who’s done fucked up shit. (it was really cool he should do it again.) he’s also been a hero and a lover and a major cunt and a sweetie pie. all of these things are true (often all at once) and that’s why i love him.

I suggest we, from now on, WILL use these words to describe Jason. No more angry reckless broken disobedience. No more angry annoying full of rage ugly stupic dumb brutal.

well, headcanon that those security protocols were developed because of jason, and that he actually helped bruce develop them—hence why he knew so much about them—as bruce couldn’t believe such a small child managed to steal one, let alone two, of the batmobile’s tires

maybe it was part of jason’s robin training, their first little project together, the first time jason got to be the other half of The Dynamic Duo

He doesn't think it's strange that everyone in the family tell him right to his face how he's an outsider. That he'll never fully belong in their family. That they should've never taken him back in. That he should drop dead again instead of continuously destroying his image from before dying, and so on.

And sure it hurt a little, but they've been saying it for ages, so he's gotten used to it.

Into his fucking neck! The spray of blood is a meter long and puddling already when he hits the ground! Yes there's a degree of artistic rendition but that kind of spray from the neck is very fucking lethal, and portraying it like that is itself an intention.
