Summitt Photography

Photographing the Comet wasn't actually too hard.  The tricky part was the timing and the right location.  I used a 200mm lens and got on top of a hill which had a good view.

I photograph this every year. This year I had some new gear and it really helped.  It is a pretty difficult shoot but after years of practice I am improving.  Earlier this year I got two new lenses, the 17-55 f/2.8 and the 80-200 f/2.8.  The latter really helped during the finale, however during the march I still had to use the special flash technique (you can read about it here:http://blog.chrissummitt.com/post/12583819372/all-souls-procession )

At the Sealife Aquarium in Phoenix, AZ.  These were very difficult to capture due to the extremely low lighting and the quick movements.  The only way I could make it work was with a very fast lens and a pretty high ISO.  I shot these with a Nikon D700 at 1/125 with an ISO of 2500.  The lens was the Nikkor 24mm f/1.4 set all the way open at 1.4

I used a 55-200mm nikon lens to capture these.  You want to zoom in as much as possible to make it appear the biggest.  The key is to capture the moon just as it is rising above the horizon.  A super moon with some sort of landscape is much more interesting than one just floating in the sky.  So, even though it was it's fullest at 8:30pm, I knew that it began to rise at 7pm and that is when I photographed it because I wanted the cityscape as a backdrop.
