What's the first "big news story" you remember from when you were a kid?

It's something I love to ask mixed-aged groups sometimes because I think it's really interesting to see the responses. I've gotten answers from the Olympics of [whatever year] to Watergate to more recent stuff from my niblings.

My first news thing I remember is the OJ Simpson trial. I vaguely remember watching the news with my grandparents before that, but that's the first story I remember, in part because my second grade teacher had us go play so she could watch the verdict 😂

Tried to watch two new shows yesterday. Couldn't make it through an episode of either, even though both star people I've loved in other projects.

If you're wondering, one was The Five-Star Weekend; the other was Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Unhappiness.

I think maybe Elin Hildebrand isn't my jam. I read one of her books this year and found the characters unappealing. The actresses in the show couldn't overcome that. As for the other show, it was like watching 4 short episodes of Curb Your Enthusiasm, and that's too many. CYE works because of the build up--you can't immediately start with Larry David angry, the pacing felt off.

Anyway that's summer TV reviews from Laura. Watch Widow's Bay instead.
