today i learned that the USA just straight up has labour camps but they donât call them that for some reason. i mean makes sense they would, just the arbitrarily different name struck me
i also think thereâs an argument to be made that pretty much all prisons in the united states are labor camps of some sort, if we include the amount of goods made by incarcerated people for major corporations. and if we include the fact that incarcerated people are a decent-sized part of the labor force that actually runs the prisons themselves while being paid pennies an hour, if at all.
in the cambrian period the ocean was shallow and the sun never set. every day was sunday morning and there was never any dark. the world was a watery wonderland and air didnt exist yet. animals had just invented eating eachh other and it was really funny. having eyeballs was all the rage
itâs scary how many people have been eager to stop wearing their masks since they stopped the mask mandateâŠIâm pretty much in the minority now whenever I go grocery shopping. Iâll see elderly people wheezing their lungs out at the produce section with the people around them not so much as batting an eye and be convinced Iâve been banished to some kind of bacterial hole unreality.

the elephant in the room when it comes to the "we must protect our children" objections by conservative politicians is that they are not referring to living, breathing children, but a platonic concept of "a child" that children are coerced into emulating through abuse kneaded by both the state and their parents. The lack of rights children possess is to render them unable to object to what adults claim to do for their own good, which oftentimes are merely just means to maintain them as property than help them as people. The idea that teaching 6th graders very basic, very clinical sex ed is child abuse stems from the fear that their parents lose some control over their child's autonomy by having the child know things (which, statically, also makes them more likely to tell someone when they are being abused by an adult. Interesting) that the parent has not sanctioned as a part of their person. Conservatives accuse everyone else of child abuse not because they care that a child is being hurt, but because hurting children is only their god given right.
The U.S government is literally the most evil group on earth like there are no words to describe how evil they are
And some yâall @ the UN on Twitter because of the most recent concentration camps like theyâre gonna just now start caring. The US military industrial complex has BEEN untouchable when it comes to crimes against humanity and thatâs not just gonna magically change because Trumpâs in office.
The Americans founded the UN, and they did not go out of the goodness of their hearts, certainly not as a check on their own power.
canât wait for the fall of this disgusting country
Well, shit đ
Shit hasnât gotten better with Biden. There is no good political party to vote for, there is pretty much no point in voting in national elections any more. Voting local is the only way anyone has any control. The average American has no rights or control over our government, no matter if you vote blue or red or anything else. Our government will do the absolute worst thing for us and for the rest of the world and they will do it in our name.
Never have I witnessed a more fragile specimen than a conservative with power. Embarrassing.
Crony capitalism poisons our world.
thereâs no such thing as crony capitalism bro. thatâs just capitalism.
There's no such thing as American Capitalism. That's just Corporate Socialism bro.
I took a college course on the history of cars in film, and the shit I learned about freeways blew my mind. They purposely got rid of a trolley system and replaced them with city busses that were bad ON PURPOSE. They wanted 2 cars at every home, so they really made a point to sabotage the public transportation system. Make it so people hated busses.
Freeways also destroyed homes, and caused a lot of pollution. I watched a video about how children were getting sick from the sudden pollution.
This makes me especially furious when bus transport is such an incredible tool for public transport--when done right. unlike trolleys and trains, which require laying tracks (and sometimes massive tunneling projects), installing a bus system simply requires the individual vehicles and bus stops (signs and benches, in the most simple form). that makes it cost effective for small cities and towns that can't or won't invest in the overhead for larger projects. also bus routes can be easily adjusted--unlike, say, a trolley that goes down the same set of tracks every time. Buses have huge potential! Unfortunately, all these benefits also make them easier for politicians and lobbyists to quietly sabatoge.
Even so, in some places we do have good bus-based transportation systems--such as in university towns that have a vested interest in providing public transport to campuses that are already very tight on parking space. Some cities and towns also do a decent job with their bus systems--but that is highly dependant on local politics, and there is always a risk of wealthy interest groups getting involved and fucking with things. Ironically, some of the best proof we have that buses are a good mass transport option come from private bus systems set up by companies like Apple and Tesla which use buses to transport thousands of their own employees, who would otherwise be stuck in a broken system of enormous commute times--where everyone else is stuck.
Anyway. Everything the original post says is correct--public transport had been criminally sabatoged in the U.S. And it is costing people jobs, livelihoods, and access to basic necessities like hospitals and grocery stores. It's not glamorous, but it is an enormous quality-of-life and class issue, and I'm relieved to see more people talking about it.
Invest in public transport, in public housing, in libraries, in education. Invest in public services. These are the heart and soul of a functioning society, and they pay for themselves a thousand times over.

Can you explain the human pet thing?
Cybersmith, aka the Human Pet Guy, is a Tumblr user from the ancient times (I believe he haunts twitter now instead) who is extremely right wing. He used to love to come into random conversations and give his 'fuck the poor, fascism is the answer, guns and freedom wooo also you're all perverts' takes with an air of smug superiority reminiscent of a thirteen year old who's just taken his first political stance and assumes that the people around him don't agree with him because they're all stupid and don't know as much as he does.
All of this is pretty run of the mill, but Human Pet Guy had this fun quirk where (while still considering the left to be perverts as these people do) he'd he'd segue into random hypothetical scenarios involving his very specific fetishes in open conversation. Like, you know how you can come across the stupidest right wing hot takes ever on the internet and then go to their blog and it's just openly full of hucow or hentai stuff? Cybersmith would say the quiet part loud. He'd come onto a random post about some woman who'd abused her husband and fleeced him out of a lot of money and be like, "would forced bimbofication be moral to inflict on people like this?" and dress it up as a philosophical argument.
He got his nickname, Human Pet Guy, in the post response that launched him into Tumblr notoriety. Some people were discussing breastfeeding in public, and he wanted to make an argument about it being indecent. To do this, he constructed an unnervingly detailed hypothetical scenario where he walks into a restaurant with his wife, children, and human pet on a leash, describing how the human pet was dressed and what modifications had been made to their body. This did not circle around to a useful point about breastfeeding. Nor did he at any point indicate that he understood why this was an irrelevant, inappropriate, and really fucking weird tangent to go on in this post.
So that's why he's called Human Pet Guy.
A minor correction to the Pet Guy Situation. In my defense it has been a few years since Iâve actually seen the post in question.
I can't remember the exact context for the post but he actually went out of his way to say the human pet's genitals and nipples would be covered, implying that public nudity would be over the line.
Content warning for non-graphic but EXTREMELY SPECIFIC discussion of human mutilation, and somebody using their phone on only 3% battery.
Wait a minute this is real??
Oh so itâs new, itâs literally red scare propaganda

This has been making the rounds and deserves a share. Â These guys are only found in one national park in india. The unique coloration found only in that one park is side effect of being isolated into an unconnected system of national park/nature reserves.
I had to have a minor medical procedure today and the important thing is that they anesthetized me for it. I warned them up front that I do not wake up well from anesthesia, as in I wake up belligerent over my disorientation and ready to escape unfamiliar surroundings, and asked them to please make sure Sark was in the room when I woke up.
Highlights from today include:
They did not make sure Sark was in the room when I woke up
The hot second I had any amount of consciousness returned, I attempted to get out of the bed and was thwarted by the railing they left up and my technician repeatedly telling me to lie down, which I did not because I was CERTAIN that IÂ needed to leave.
I tried to remove my IV myself 15+ times in under 3 minutes and told the technician I could do it. I could not; I had asked the nurse who put it in to put extra tape on it so that I could not. I could also not remove the rest of the things they had me connected to, but only because I couldnât figure out how, not for lack of trying
I could not remember the technicianâs face because my facial blindness is MUCH worse when tired, and I called him Steven several times, and Josh. His name was Andrew.
My gown slipped down my shoulder in my struggles to escape, and the technician attempted to replace it and I told him âyouâve seen a boob, Steven.â His name was still Andrew, and the procedure space was an open outpatient area with other people
I was instructed not to bend over or the anesthetic would ârush to my headâ to which I responded in outrage âWELL WHERE THE HELL IS IT NOW?â
I asked everyone present âwho the hell are youâ and insisted the doctor tell me how to say her first name. They asked me if I remembered Sark when he arrived a minute later, and I stalled out entirely staring at him like a deer in headlights because I could not parse how he got there.
When they brought Sark in, the technician asked him âDoes she normally wake up like thisâ and Sark told him âDepends on when you wake her up.â which is very fair of him because he remembers that I was woken at 4am once by someone honking their horn repeatedly because they wanted to fight my neighbor, and I charged outside in pajamas across a field to go attack their car while shouting about how rude they were and that they could fight me. They did not want to fight me, if you were wondering.
Sark told me they fetched him from the waiting room by saying âmaybe you can come calm her down.â
This all happened in approximately 5 minutes, before I had gotten control of myself and could remember Andrewâs name and shape.
Andrew told me goodbye at the door and thanked me for being his most amusing patient today.
At least I managed to put my own clothes on and walk out the front door unassisted this time.
⊠âthis timeâ?
Yeah the last time I was anesthetized, as soon as I was conscious I managed to actually make it out of the bed, naked and confused, and the doctor was like âwell good luck with thatâ and left me squirming on the floor like an overturned turtle, shouting angrily at my mother that I could put my own clothes on while being entirely incapable of actually doing so. I remember being in the car afterward but not how I got there. I feel like this time was a vast improvement for me. Really taking a leap forward in dignity.
There are quite a few people reblogging this who are very angry on my behalf because the staff didnât listen to me and have Sark in the room when I woke up, and while it is very valid to be angry at the medical community in general for not listening to patients, I feel I need to make it clear that Sark being in the room was not for my benefit, it was for theirs. I would have done nothing different. I absolutely would still have attempted freedom and been just as belligerent. Sark has absolutely no ability to calm me down in that state, but he would have made Andrewâs job easier for him, like some kind of rehabber that is better at handling the feral raccoon than the vet thatâs just trying to do their job. Instead Andrew got to babysit my uncoordinated escape attempts personally, which I am positive he regretted enough to make up for not listening to me.
In the thrilling conclusion to this anecdote, this morning I learned the doctorâs first name was Stevanie, accounting for why I insisted the technicianâs name was Steven, and why I made the doctor explain herself to me upon her arrival to the circus. I must have made sure I knew A Name before going under so I would recognize it upon waking, a tactic which clearly did not do anyone any favors. I will obviously refrain from such tactical maneuver planning in the future.

This reminds me of when I came out of anaesthetic and my pulse was so fast the nurse was mildly frantic in her search of a doctor but couldnât leave me cause I wouldnât shut up
After my little beater chillaxed and I was well enough to be wheeled out of recovery I was still too out of it and far too chatty and because of the nature of my surgery my nether regions were kind of in full view and with 3 male nurses wheeling me out for some reason I thought it perfectly alright to share loudly that
âA lot of people has seen my vagina but never so many at onceâ to which I received utter silence as response
