Meals by Reels. Probably the greatest influence on my cooking ever was people doing simple things that you can change up without much additional labor.

Do yourself a favor. Sound up. Enjoy.
This is a serotonin machine
Canāt wait for, like, 2025 when we look back on the 2018/2019 era and say āhey, remember when we were all really freaking depressed? That was a crazy time! Glad we arenāt like that anymoreā
Hey,
Donāt say anything
Here's one for the academics in the audience: in your experience, which specific discipline is most likely to have strikingly personal, dude-owes-me-money type beef with a guy who's been dead for nine hundred years? I know you get them in every field of study, of course, but I mean like statistically.
Let me tell you something about Bishop Alcuin of York (735-804). One of Alcuinās surviving letters to another bishop complains about monks wasting their time on secular literature, and recommends discouraging that practice, saying, Quid Hinieldus cum Christo? ā āWhat does Ingeld have to do with Christ?ā
Ingeld is a minor character in Beowulf, who also crops up in a couple Old Norse sources. This line from Alcuin is both supporting evidence that there was a rich tradition of heroic literature in early England (of which Beowulf is the only survival in long form rather than brief poems), and an indicator of why we donāt have much of it anymore (the people who would otherwise be writing it down were discouraged from doing so by assholes like Alcuin).
Put yourself in the shoes of someone who studies Old English. Beowulf is the absolute peak of the corpus you have to work with, pretty much the only long-form story that isnāt a saintās life and/or just a translation of something written elsewhere. Statistically, youāre probably in this field because you encountered Beowulf in high school or college & it hit you so hard it rewrote your brain. There is no indication that it was particularly well-known during the medieval period; it survives in one kinda-low-quality manuscript and had been completely forgotten until the early modern period. A few shorter poems in the Exeter Book (āDeorā, āWidsithā) contain allusions that indicate the existence of a whole complex of legends & literature linked to, but distinct from, other northern European traditions. We donāt have any of those except Beowulf, we almost lost that one, and hereās this jackass Alcuin criticizing the monks who had knowledge of these stories for wasting their time on them.
Given the opportunity, I think a large proportion of Old English scholars would happily punch Bishop Alcuin of York right in his holier-than-thou mouth.
Just for the sake of analogy, imagine that you are a Star Trek fan in the 34th century. Out of all the original source material, the only things that survive are a handful of episode summaries, a few clips and archived posts from the Old Internet, and a single battered paperback novelization of Star Trek VI. One of those archived posts is a librarian complaining about how much space all their Star Trek stuff takes up and advising other librarians to ājust weed all that Spock shit from the shelves because itās trash anyway.ā Imagine how much you would hate that long-dead librarian.
One of these was delicious. One was a terrible mistake. Can you guess which is which? On the left, matzah tuna melt with matbucha. On the right, matzah tuna melt with red horseradish.

Shirt Neutrality by Wingfeather (on tees here)
US-based photographer Freddy Fabris had always wanted to pay homage to the Renaissance masters with his photos in some way, but he wasn't sure how until he stumbled upon an auto-mechanic shop in the Midwest. This led to a brilliant series of portraits with auto mechanics reenacting famous Renaissance paintings.

STEPHEN FRY: Itās sad how oversimplified and infantilistic ethics has become. Yes itās sad that people suffer from abuse, but being an abuse survivor does NOT give you the right to try and censor all works of art and media that portray abuse. Censorship does not help cure the evils of the world and self pity is a deleterious vice.
