a zoom university meme pack created by yours truly to celebrate (approximately) 1 year of remote learning
some people were asking for actual advice and i can never pass up an opportunity to procrastinate so hereâs just a couple of things i always need to remind myself ofâŚnow back to my paper :(
I've always loved bullet journaling. It was a creative way to be productive, and it gave me a way to stay organized. In the past year or so, I slowly stopped making time to create new spreads. This was the last one I created, and that was probably about 9 months ago. With everything going on in my life right now, bullet journaling just isn't practical for me anymore.
It's taken me a long time to come to terms with that and to accept that it's okay. The guilt/feeling that I was dropping the ball on something turned my once beloved creative outlet into a dreaded chore, and that pisses me off.
For now, I'm content with using a premade planner to organize myself. Maybe one day, I'll have the time and inspiration to bujo again..
studying tips for ex-gifted kid academics :)
Just thought Iâd share some of my personal tricks to make studying easier and efficient;
⢠Planning one week ahead
Itâs super important to stay ahead of schedule, especially in university, so organize your planner as efficiently as possible and make sure you stay on top of your assignements and readings
â˘Sticky notes
Write down key aspects or vocabulary, whatever it is you need to memorise, on sticky notes and put them in your textbooks. This will highlight the main ideas and make it easier to retain information.
â˘Find a study cycle that works with you and stick to it
Personnally, studying in 20/10 minutes cycles work best for my attention span. Other popular cycles include studying for 40min/break for 15, or studying for 15min/break for 5min. However any tempo that suits you is what you should try to keep. I try to aim for at least 6 cycles daily (add up to about 2 hours of actual studying)
⢠Summarizing
After each class, try to mentally go through what you learned and write it out on a piece of paper. This will help you train your memory and help you retain information easier. Also try to make recap sheets for your classes and put them at the beginning of your notebook/textbook.
⢠Keep in mind your goals
Keeping in mind your long-term and short-term goals will really motivate you to do your best and study more.
â˘Donât overwork yourself
Now,I know that time can pass really quickly once you actually get down to work, however, overworking will cause more harm than good. Please do take breaks, keep hydrated and do things that you enjoy, otherwise you will very likely experience a burn-out.
⢠Music
Finding a playlist, podcast or background music that you can work to will both make you more efficient and definitely more focused. I personnally recommend classical music or cafe/library asmr or lo-fi beats (I find that music with lyrics end up distracting me when i study)
That was it, feel free to comment if you have any other tips!
My first step is taking notes on all of my previous class PowerPoints. With classes having been online through Zoom this past year, I feel that I wasn't able to fully absorb as much of the information as I otherwise would've. It'll be a lot of material to sift through in such a short amount of time, but it will (hopefully) be worth it!

Wow, I haven't updated this account since I was a pre-med junior in undergrad and apparently an Evolutionary Biology major??? Not sure when that decision was made, but it certainly didn't last long.
I'm currently in my second (and final!) Year of my Master's Clinical Mental Health Counseling program while also working to complete my internship and study for the CPCE and NCE.
I'm hoping to revive this account to document my journey, motivate myself and others to not procrastinate, and have some fun!
Every single time I say the phrase âI was classically trained in the art of multiple choice testsâ everyone in the room whoâs not a millennial laughs at my joke while all the other millennials in the room immediately look like they just walked in on a funeral by accident.
teach me please
Why? It has nothing to do with the real world and Iâm mad that the school system taught me how to take multiple choice tests rather than write a report for a job or properly research what issues are important when deciding who to vote for in an election. Or like⌠accurate history. You know. Actual stuff you need to know to be a person.
im currently stuck in the school system and I want cheat codes
Okay, I completely understand wanting to know the actual stuff, I want to know those things too, and those are things im working on learning. but to be able to get to the information that tells me these things I need to survive this hellhole of a system and im bad at tests, which means i dont survive very well.Â
Okay fine.
Read the entire question twice to look for tricky wording. If youâre allowed to write on it circle or underline words like NOT or EXCEPT or other things your brain might skip over. This will make it less likely youâll skip over them.
Read all the answers before answering. Sometimes the wrong answers are so stupid you donât even have to work out the problem or try to remember the thing.
If the entire test is about the same subject (Colonial America for example) answers might be found in previous questions. Like question #6 might ask who wrote Common Sense. You might remember that back in question one it said âIn Common Sense by Thomas Paineâ and thereâs your answer. This happens a lot more often than youâd think.
If you donât know the answer cross out the answers you know are incorrect. If there are four answers but you know one of them is wrong your odds of guessing right just went up from 25% to 33%. If you can eliminate two answers then you have a 50/50 chance of getting it right.
If you canât eliminate any answers at all guess C. The placement of correct answers isnât completely random and C is the answer slightly more often than other answers. If you guess randomly your odds of getting the answer right actually goes down.
Read study guides and take practice tests. Actually read them. Especially if theyâre written by the same person who wrote the test youâll be taking. Youâll be more likely to pick up on their quirks and what kind of trick questions they write if you use the study material. Youâll also know what to study and what to leave.
For sections where thereâs a list of words you have to match to definitions read the words first. Youâre probably more likely to know the definition of a word then the word that goes with a definition. (or time period or math method or whatever). Answer the ones you know and leave the ones you donât until youâre completely done with that section. Then look at your remaining words and definitions and match them to the ones that sound the least ridiculous.
Donât take a test on an empty stomach unless youâre fasting for religious reasons. I donât care if you havenât eaten breakfast in twenty years. Youâre gonna eat something before you take that test.
Remember that taking multiple choice tests is a skill that not everyone is naturally good at and itâs a skill that means absolutely nothing in the real world. So however you do on this test doesnât dictate your worth as a person.
As someone who is also classically trained in the art of multiple choice test, I can confirm
Yeah I learned all this shit too. And like while most things public school teaches you is such fucking bullshit, this is actually true.
here is a gentle reminder: itâs ok to have a rest and treat yourself. call your friend youâve been trying to agree on meeting up for months, grab your classmate, fellow student, your family member, treat them with some huge ass pizza and wine, get dizzy together, laugh, tell embarrassing stories, cry if you feel like it, because for gods sake this is what life is for ⨠academic success is important and all, but what is more important is you and your well-being, so put the goddamn pen and that piles of beautufullly written notes and have.a.rest.
p.s. treating yourself with a huge ass pizza and wine is perfectly ok too! i do this every now and then absolutely alone when I donât feel like being social or talking in public so this is a perfect getaway đ
Quick study update: Iâm dying... Someone wrap me up in a blanket and tell me that itâs going to be alright
