ive waited all year to be able to reblog this

We found this masterpiece at Marshallās today.
so on the subject of stolen property, iāve seen various arguments on this point but it is in fact true that inheriting something from a relative, when you know full well that it was stolen, does not make it yours.
this clearly goes doubly so for powerful magical artifacts, and especially for artifacts which are strongly implied to contain part of their creatorās soul!
you can talk about consequences - maybe the artifact in question has benefits for you, maybe youāre not convinced its rightful owners would use it responsibly - but talking about the consequences doesnāt erase the fact that whatever benefits you think youāre getting are achieved through wrongful means.
which is why i, too, think Frodo should have given the One Ring back to Sauron. thief.
Hahahahaha here comes the law student nerd ready to complicate your wonderful post, op.
(Really this is just pretext for me to study for my property final in a week, so thanks yeah)
Because according to the principles of common property law, the matter of who actually owns title to the One Ring becomes really complicated really fast.
Buckle up babes for the pedantic law lecture no one asked for.
(more under the cut)

I asked Neil Gaiman if he'd do a live reading of the Cheesecake Factory menu if I raised $500,000 for a charity of his choice. And because he's not just a great artist but a great person, he said yes. He chose UNHCR, the United Nations Refugee Agency. I want to hit this goal by World Refugee Day on June 20. You read that right. If we hit $500K, Neil has kindly agreed to do a live reading of the greatest restaurant menu of all time. It's about 8000 pages, last time I checked. Have you heard Neil's voice? Mellifluous, I tell you. There's a reason he won an award for audiobooks along with all the 18,000 other things he's won as an author/screenwriter/producer/raconteur/hero. FYI, the hashtag for this silliness is #neilcake. Why? Because it is silly and good. I'll arrange with Neil at his convenience to do the reading within the next year in a public setting, whether onstage or online. If it's onstage, I'll sell tickets and donate profits after costs to UNHCR. Regardless, I will make the event available to the general public via livestream or a lovely video you can watch later whilst weeping at the beauty of Neil Gaiman saying "avocado egg rolls." You think you loved "American Gods" or "Sandman" or "Good Omens" or his "Doctor Who" episodes or the other 18,000 great things he's written? This will almost certainly be better or at least ...
Help refugees. Make Neil Gaiman read the Cheesecake Factory menu.
This is completely full of win.Ā
Madness. Pure madness.
This is your periodic reminder to stop feeding, petting, grabbing, and otherwise harassing the wildlife. In addition to the danger you put yourself and other people in, when you habituate a wild animal to human food or contact you set them up for disaster. A fed animal is a dead animal.
Pretty much this. This situation happened because the sea lion was habituated to people and brave enough to start looking for food to steal (my best guess is the edge of the kidās dress looked like the paper wrapping on a sandwich). Donāt fuck with the wildlife, because it fucks up the life of the wildlife.Ā
Observe and do not engage, look and do not touch.

This is Superman.
Superman is a tiny tiny little rooster who unfortunately was a little bit stunted in the growth area when he was a little chick. Ā Ā
Brother and sister, born at the exact same time.
He eventually caught up but by then the flock had basically bullied him so much for being tiny heād been entirely ostracized and turned into a complete loner so now he has to live all by himself over with the cows, but he doesnāt care one bit because now heās the leader of four big brown four legged chickens and honestly who can say that.
Also heās super-cuddly.
I love him.
my name is Cow i haf to bend so i can see my tiny frend he cares for me and all the herdĀ i care for him i lik the burd
Reblogged for the poem in particular but also adorable chicken.
has this been done yet

Not technically InkTober since its all digital, but Iām going to try and draw/post more this month in celebration of all the other cool artists out there doing it up old school styles on paper! ;o) Respect!
Iām gonna depress the hell out of all of you. ready? ok go
so, that āstop devaluing feminized work postā
nice idea and all
but the thing is, as soon as a decent number of women enter any field, it becomes āfeminized,ā and it becomes devalued.
as women enter a field inĀ greater number, people become less willing to pay for it, the respect for it drops, and itās seen as less of a big deal. itās not about the job- itās about the number of women in the job.
observe what happened with biology. itās STEM, sure, but anyone in a male-dominated science will sneer at the idea of it being āfor real,ā nevermind that everyone sure took it more seriously when it was a male dominated field. so has happened with scores of other areas; nursing comes to mind
so the thing is, itās not the work or the job that has to be uplifted and seen as more respectable. it will never work out, until people start seeing women as respectable
but thereās a doozy and who the fuck knows if itās ever happening in my life time
āobserve what happened with biology. itās STEM, sure, but anyone in a male-dominated science will sneer at the idea of it being āfor real,ā nevermind that everyone sure took it more seriously when it was a male dominated field.ā
Personal anecdote time!Ā Iām in a biology graduate program.Ā An acquaintance wanted to introduce some guy to me because his son was thinking about becoming an undergrad science major.Ā When he found out I was in the biology department, he grinned and said, āWell, I guess thatās kind of related to science.ā
I gave him what I hope was an icy look and said, āIsnāt it strange how men outside the field started saying that right around the time biology majors shifted from mostly male to mostly female?ā
The guy got this look on his face like he was about to play the ājust a jokeā card, and then an older woman who had been standing nearby, talking to someone else, turned to me and said, āThe same thing happened with real estate.āĀ She went on to explain that, over the course of the career, the male-to-female ratio among real estate agents had dropped, and the pay and āprestige factorā of that job dropped along with it.
Itās also interesting to look at fields where the reverse pattern happens, such as computer programming. Computer programming used toĀ be a female-dominated field, but, in order to raise the prestige of the field, new entry tests and hiring practices were instituted to discourage the hiring of women. Because, naturally, thereās no way a field can be dominated by women and prestigious at the same time (reference: Researcher reveals how āComputer Geeksā replaced āComputer Girlsā).
Iāve argued this exact thing before! Biology was NEVER considered a soft science before women entered. And medicine is now losing prestige too because women are becoming doctors instead of staying in lower positions. Suddenly these mentally rigorous fields based on insight and analysis are ājust memorizationā or some other bullshit about how theyāre not REALLY using āintelligence.āĀ
