Not often does one get to see a majestic juvenile bald eagle successfully capture an unattended hamburger.

american blackbirds are icterids but european blackbirds are thrushes but american robins are thrushes but european robins are flycatchers and they are named robin because (checks notes) brits in the 1400s called them "robert" on account of they are just some familiar guy who shows up in your yard. hold on post canceled is that really why they are called that? what the fuck. they did this with jackdaws and magpies too? i can't even be annoyed. how human. "who's that? that's bob." fuck dude it sure is.

Today was Awkward Day at the pond. Flickers are woodpeckers with short legs, so getting into a bird bath is a little weird for them. But this guy was determined and made it happen, even if just quickly. Then a Blue Jay decided to take a sunbath right in the pool. That section if sped up five times to show how long it was. We are expecting a period of extreme heat, make sure to have some water sources for wildlife around!
(Sorry for the sound fluctuations - there were also Starling youngsters around today that always sound a bit wild, and this particular camera has a weird woosh at the beginning of every clip. I am trying to remedy these but things always sound different on phone and computer, and I am using free editing software.)
What eldritch horror is this? If you thought it was a bird with legs growing from its chest, look again! Male Bronze-winged Jacanas (Metopidius indicus) are responsible for raising their chicks, and they have a unique defensive strategy to keep their chicks safe. When threatened, a father can scoop up his offspring and carry them under his wings! Found in parts of Southeast Asia, this species uses its large feet to wade in the shallows, feeding on plant material, insects, and invertebrates floating on the surface.

in more pleasant news: this year is seeing the biggest humpback migration in Australian history, bigger than it was PRE whaling. That's right, there are more humpbacks migrating off the coast of Australia than there were BEFORE industrial whaling started.
A huge, fat W for environmentalists and Greenies. what an achievement
we did it! we saved the fucking whales!!!!
Once hunted almost to extinction, the population of humpback whales currently migrating down Australia's east coast has bounced back and is

Black raspberries?
Black raspberries are the superior drupe imo :)
Black raspberries are a different species of bramble, Rubus occidentalis, common in the eastern United States. There are cultivated varieties with larger berries but the wild ones are eaten too, and grow all over the place. They have a unique taste unlike either red raspberries or blackberries, and the fruit has intermediate characteristics as well - they are somewhat shiny (cultivated ones moreso), firmer than a raspberry, but hollow like a raspberry. (They're not a hybrid of the two though. They're their own thing)
I just picked the first of the year today. Bit underripe but still delicious!
There's so many wild species of Rubus I would like to try the fruit of, especially those that grow in the western US. I've had cloudberries in Finland before (they also grow here but only very far north/in the mountains), which are also a very unique-tasting berry.
everywhere i go there are big yellow sines with my pictur on them so you could say im kind of a celebraty around here
