80s!donghyuck isnât so happy about being sent to live with his aunt over the summer. he had only seen her once when he was ten, and from what he remembers, she is just about the most unbearable woman he has ever met. even all these years later, he stands by that statement.
as soon as donghyuck arrives at her perfect, suburban house, his body fills with dread. her lawn is cropped to what heâs sure is exactly one inch, and the flowerbeds are groomed meticulously, free of even a single weed. three whole-ass months, he thinks, sighing.
his aunt opens the pristine white door, teeth bared in an even whiter smile as she shouts, âoh, my duckie! youâre here! come in, come in.â her hair is fried into crisp, tight curls, and hyuck gags at the smell of chemicals and too-strong rose perfume.
âhi auntie, good to see you,â he says, trying not to grit his teeth.
donghyuck feels his ears start to ring, and forces a smile as his aunt pinches his cheeks and inspects him from head-to-toe.
âduckie, youâve grown so much!â she squeals, making hyuckâs head pound. heâs always hated that nickname. âyour mother was right, youâve become quite a handsome young man.â she pats him on his now crimson cheek for good measure, and all hyuck can do is laugh awkwardly.
âthank you, auntie. is it okay if i go put my stuff in my room?â he tries politely, gesturing to his suitcase.
âof course! make yourself at home!â she exclaims, and hyuck wonders how her voice still works, because she can only seem to speak in shouts.
he doesnât hesitate to head up the staircase to the guest bedroom, relieved to escape his auntâs overjoyous hugs. he puts his headphones on, plugging them into his walkman before going to work unpacking. at least he has his michael jackson to keep him entertained while heâs in this hellish, boring house. hyuck gazes out the window mindlessly as he puts some of his shirts in the dresser, noticing you in the house next door, dancing and singing loudly.
he takes off his headphones, walking over to the window, seeing if he can hear what youâre listening to. you donât seem to notice the pair of eyes on you, continuing to dance and belt the lyrics to what hyuck recognizes as a fleetwood mac song. hyuck canât help but smile sheepishly, because you look so carefree, so pretty. not to mention, you probably have good music taste. his cheeks grow hot when he thinks you are about to see him watching you, and he turns around to finish putting his clothes away. though he tries desperately, he canât will away the blush that creeps up his neck.
if he gets to see you, maybe this summer wouldnât be so bad after all.
