Amy Winehouse's ballet flats
something that gets glossed over in amy winehouse style reminiscences is that she didn't wear ballet flats, she was wearing actual ballet slippers, like for ballet dancers, which is why they were shredded after a few wears, because they aren't shoes designed to imitate ballet slippers, they are the actual ballet slippers and they are made of glue and satin and don't really have a sole to speak of, just a sliver of thin suede. ive never seen anyone point this out, but it's one of the most interesting and poetic personal style decisions she made
'Icebound River'. Charles Rosen. c. 1915.
pro censorship people are always like âactually Iâm living proof that books can be really harmful to kids! when I was a child I read a book that upset me and of course I couldnât talk to my parents about it because they would throw rocks at me whenever I confessed to reading anything but the Bible, so as you can see, that book was the source of my trauma and warped ideas about right and wrongâ
also Iâm sorry but I fundamentally cannot agree that âpreserving innocenceâ in the form of ignorance of bad things is a desirable or even attainable goal for child rearing. the Siddhartha approach just isnât realistic for a human being living in the world, you know? your kids are going to learn about the cruelties of the world sooner or later. of course a book may be upsetting or disturbing and haunt them. but letâs be realââread about it in a bookâ is one of the safest ways to encounter them.
I know I come across as a huge bitch when I say this but I have very low tolerance for people talking about how they were âtraumatizedâ by the contents of a book. were you? were you really? or were you upset and disturbed by the concepts you encountered in a book that your next door neighbor experienced first hand? cry me a river, but while you were reading a book your classmate was getting beaten or raped at home or tortured in an institution, your neighbor was watching his dad getting tazed by cops or administering narcan to his mother, your playmate from that time at the fair was getting deported to be shot at or starve or imprisoned in a detention center and forced to sleep in her own filth⌠because these things happen to people! To children exactly like you but for some unlucky stroke of fate! If you didnât read about it in a book, youâd hear about it somewhere else. On the school bus, maybe, from Natalie telling you about how her dad used to get her drunk and touch her. Or maybe at the grocery store, witnessing an ICE raid or a homeless man get his teeth kicked in. Or maybe walking into a dentistâs office and watching some news anchor explaining how itâs actually fine to drop a bomb on relief workers, or about how many tweens the President may have molested and if we should care, or if that teenager who just got shot for carrying a grocery bag wrong had it coming, or or or orâ
Anyway. It sucks to read books that you werenât psychologically ready for but itâs hardly a moral crisis. I promise Iâm empathetic to the distress of children encountering concepts in books that frighten or disturb them but I cannot get behind the idea that preserving the untainted naivety of middle class white children children about the things that can do and are happening to their peers is some all-important priority deserving laws about it.
just a little reminder that drag queens "serve cunt," trans women "serve pussy vagina" and everyone else "looks nice"

[I AM THE SCARIEST THING IN THE DARK]
20/02/2017 18:15:42 I am the scariest thing in the dark.
computer, how do i make it stop
I am, like, a long running proponent of the "eat something and you'll feel better" crowd and am often one of the first people to suggest "maybe it's time for a snack before I get whipped into a frenzy" but I really do resent how instantaneous it is. like it'll feel like I'm having my worst day in months and then I'll start eating and literally before I even finish I'm like oh yeah the world is beautiful
No for real. Doesn't need to be huge; you'd be surprised how much half a dozen crackers or a handful of almonds improves one's disposition and outlook on life.

The library at Mafra National Palace in Portugal. Where, to keep books from being damaged by insects, they uses 500 bats! The bats are kept in boxes during the day but at night they are let out and eat up to double their own body weight in insects. (Info taken from this article at bookwire. Thanks to amygarvey for telling me about it!)
I think I need to go there. Do you think theyâd notice if I moved in?
bats in a library. i just.

When youâve spent 92 years on this earth with the name âDick Van Dykeâ and youâre only just now hearing the dumbest possible joke about it.
one of the weirdest experiences ive had being trans and out so far was when i went to the doctors about hrt and she walked me through the consent form (the one that tells you youre doing irreversible damage to your body and you're a freak) with a pen in her hand like crossing shit out and being like "this isn't true, this is actually completely false, this is totally an exaggeration" and it was stuff like "research on hrt is limited poor and speculative" or "hrt can increase risks of disease" or "testosterone makes you more violent and angry" like idk having it written in a way intended to make you feel like you're making a big mistake is one thing but the fact that the form has like literally proven false info in it and the doctor had to verbally be like sorry this isnt even true its just on there because society hates trans people. is wild

babe stop armchair diagnosing people you dont like with psychopathy or npd we're gonna go play in the paddock ok??? come play in the paddock with us
really like how no matter what i type into the search bar for post sharing, tumbly insists i want to send the post to @doubleipa, a user i follow but have never had any correspondence with as far as i know, but when i tag them in THIS post tumblr insists i am actually trying to tag three other users
two of which i have never spoken to and do not follow afaik, i think i actually have mudwerks blocked (they didnt do anything wrong at all i just was getting spammed with their posts from the For You tab and other sources), and one of which is a friend. sometimes tumblr will autocorrect various spam or porn blogs when i'm trying to tag someone or share something and am typing in a username. saame thing happens when i try to use tags for anything, just random suggestions that have nothing to do with me
send me your posts
