It's like excusing elderly people for being racist except worse because people are actually dead and entire countries pillaged. I interact with veterans quite regularly and this idea that most of them are against the military is completely untrue. They stick to their commitments and hold Islamophobic beliefs. Of course there are a few defectors, but the vast majority believe in the military industrial complex and that whatever they did from Vietnam to Afghanistan is justified. And they'd never excuse someone from another country doing the same.

omg I can't believe I forgot to mention the time that I was working at the VA after Alex Pretti was murdered and incorrectly thought the nurses I work with (who are also veterans) would stand by him but nope. So it's not like there's camaraderie either! Just brain rot MAGA Trump nonsense. People who decide to go to the military because they're poor can grow and change their minds about it later, but most people who do so think of themselves as the exception.
