Not to be all "the children have forgotten the sacred texts!" but I just saw someone refer to a ship between two people who are good friends in canon as a crackship.
Hon. No. Crackship doesn't just mean "not canon". It's difficult to imagine two people who spend significant canon time together as a crackship. Crackship is when you write Galactus getting fucked by Tony the Tiger.
#to me a crackship is characters you kind of laugh to yourself thinking about and yet there is Something about them#like you can’t fully take yourself seriously shipping them and yet you can’t stop#for me byeongjin was a crackship bc they almost never interacted in canon but also bc both are so intensely in love with other people#so it demanded some ooc reconfigurations of their characters to allow them to redirect that towards each other#but maui and moana is also a crackship to me simply because they are disney characters for children#so even though the text (to me) supports that reading and shows real chemistry it’s cracky on account of the genre#it can also be a crackship in some social contexts but not in others! ghoulcy is very uncontroversial here#(in the sense that everyone agrees that this is shippable even if some people dislike it)#but to people i talk to irl it would 100% be a crackship#because the thought wouldn’t even have crossed their minds and they would respond with laughter#it’s just got to have some absurdity to it. and that is of course subjective#my fic tag
