read the term "skillful attention" in a buddhist article (usual caveats for Buddhist material written by white Americans) and it's resonating with me. i feel like attention is usually described as a resource that you can divide, that you can concentrate, or be deficient in, etc. but the choice of how and where your attention is applied is more important and talked about less
