Looking back on season 1, she really was fucking insufferable because no one let her be MARGARET, she was just hot lips or Franks little wind-up doll that he could play with whenever he felt like it. She was dispensable and temporary because Frank knew that at the end of the day, he had a wife to return to. Margaret was just someone to keep him company.

Her character development in the show really is powerful. I love that she's constantly shown putting up this strong, unbothered and strict persona until we get her alone and we see that she really is just a sensitive and kind-hearted woman with too much responsibility on her shoulders. She cares so much for those around her, she wants to love so strongly and passionately, and she wants to be someone she wants to look at and feels proud of, but she needs to put her work first before she can care about what others think. That comes with her being seen as this big enemy in the 4077th, which just isn't true. Margaret so clearly wants to be a friend to these people, but getting attached means risks, and those risks have the ability to take lives. She has to be strict because otherwise others fall behind. I love it so much.
